I think that's pretty cool for the houses to be the group colors. I was picturing what they would do with a SK house. Lavender with maroon shutters or vice versa?

As far as cutting or pledging a group for dumb reasons, I know people who have pledged and also not pledged groups based on the (unflattering) nickname others had for the house.

Probably lavender with maroon shutters, since the houses are all pastel.

On the topic though, when I went through rush there was a girl who swore she would only join a chapter whose suite was on the top floor of the panhellenic building. Fortunately for the Greek system, she dropped out of recruitment upon being released by the "top floor."

Well, I definitely didn't pledge Sigma Kappa for its colors. I think lavender and maroon are hideous together. People during recruitment definitely talk about our house and how we're the Sigma Kattle (about ten years ago I guess we had some really heavy girls). Some of our members are eager to move away from that stereotype. I think we should all embrace it and get some of those sweatpants with MOO across the butt.

When I was going through recruitment, the girl behind me alphabetically was painfully a stereotypical sorority girl. I'm talking the whole nine-yards--big hair, bleached to the max, caked on makeup to point of not being able to see her real face, worrying constantly about her nails, critiquing everyone around her, just a nasty fake person. On the third or fourth day of recruitment when I was really starting to fall in love with Sigma Kappa, I overheard her talking disparagingly about Sigma Kappa and how much she hates it and hates going back, blahity-blah-blah-blah. My thought, "That sounds like confirmation that Sigma Kappa is the place for me." And here I am three years later. Don't know where that girl ended up and it's probably better that way.

Also, ADPi has a really bad rep at our school. They have really low numbers and are fighting to stay open. I have a lot of friends in that house. They are super nice girls and I point every one that I meet in campus who's interested in pledging off-cycle their direction, but if you're an ADPi alum, the WSU chapter could use some help. How about stepping up to bat for them?!

I might have posted this somewhere already, but there was a girl going through recruitment with me last fall who based who she liked best in order of how she liked the houses decorations/sofas/wall colors etc.

That's good to know I wasn't seeing things! I thnk it's really cool that the houses are painted in sorority colors

And there is a popular song for sisters called "My Phi Mu Castle" (written actually about the house at Delta Beta - UIUC (for another thread).

It starts out...

I have a Phi Mu Castle
That's filled with treasures old...
Good to know...I always wondered. Now if someone could explain the Emerald City mural on the KD's wall that looked like a pile of green...oh well, I won't say!!

I was actually at Disney for that fiasco! I was very disappointed to not be able to see the real castle underneath all that pink stuff!

I actually don't dislike pink like I used to! It actually looks good on me since I'm blonde and extremely fair complexioned.

My sister actually dropped Sigma Kappa because they did a Willy Wonka skit during rush and some girl did such a fantastic Veruca Salt impersonation that it freaked my sister out. She could only think about Veruca Salt girl when she thought about Sigma Kappa! Now that's a weird reason to cut a group.

That's pretty funny. Darn them and their good acting! We don't want people to drop SK because of it.

My sister never was a big Willy Wonka fan, but I LOVE the original Gene Wilder extravaganza. I would go to town in that candy land with the chocolate river!!! I don't remember them doing a Willy Wonka skit when I went through.

P.S. I just remembered...they did it for open house. You got a golden ticket to tour Sigma Kappa. They changed their party after that year so I never got to see it!

Veruca was the spoiled one, if I remember correctly. In which case oh wow...that could be a really obnoxious part.

That is right. The girl who was purple had the name of Violet Beauregard. The oompa loompas squeezed the grape juice out of her.

I do remember Veruca Salt, and she was a rich, spoiled brat. She wanted her "oompa loompa NOW".
