From what I was always told, NYC does still incorporate brothel laws, but this is also included for Frats (male prostitution anyone?)

Frat & Sorority houses are illegal in NYC and there are absolutely none within the 5 boroughs- although that does not mean there isn't room for them, especially in Staten Island. While some of the larger schools may have floors for specific GLO's, its rare.

I tried looking it up to find out what the actual reason is and I can't find anything. Does anyone know whats up with that?
You can't find anything because it doesn't exist. That's "whats up with that."

So then what is the reasoning for no sorority or fraternity housing in NYC at ANY of the schools here?

ZONING LAWS.

They prevent more than a specified number of unrelated people from living together, but that includes bands, cults, Justin Bieber fan clubs, you name it. It has NOTHING to do with prostitution or brothels.

This is NYC...10 people will cram themselves into a 1 bedroom if they want and the city doesn't do anything about it.

As far as $ goes, thats one thing, but people always find away around that. Its just a shame that schools like NYU, Columbia, PACE, and other major schools in and around the city dont offer the same opportunities that Long Island or NJ- 20 minutes away, do.

I didnt say that it was definitely due to brothels, I was just stating that is what 95% of Greek life in the city thinks and I was trying to find out what the actual reasoning is. No need for yelling or being nasty, Im just trying to discuss this like an adult.

Sigma Phi Epsilon
New York Phi - Columbia University

I believe most of the houses in that block are Greek housing.

Yeah, doesn't NYU have Greek housing, too. I know I've walked past some Greek housing walking around NYC.

And you've answered your brothel question.

I know they have floors in the apartments. I've also seen some greek letters around the NYU area, dunno if it's still greek housing though.

It seems you didnt read my entire post. I said that was the general thought...although it didnt make sense because there are no frat houses either.

Everyone thinks they are illegal.

Im trying to find out the real reason that there are no frat or sorority houses in NYC...the way you see them in places like Long Island or New Jersey.

There are fraternity and sorority houses in NYC. Columbia got em, so does NYU.
