I tried to look on the UGA website this afternoon to see if they had ANY info and there's a message that the site has been taken down (or something to that effect). Just Panhellenic, IFC is fine.

Phi Mu made quota. I don't know if they got any girls over quota, but I know that they made quota.

The numbers for Bama are a little misleading because alot of sororities did not have all of their girls show up after recieving their bids. One sorority we counted had 36 new members another 34 and one sorority I know had 20 girls not show up. This never happens at Bama! Gamma Phi had 31 and that is before snap bids. All the above numbers will change as the week progresses.

I am curious too. That is a HUGE amount...WAY more than usual. I know
"computer problems" have been blamed in the past for mismatched bids, no pref invites etc (yea, sure!). Any Bama folks here who can answer? ADPi Bama?

UGA Question

Okay so I was looking at some UGA sorority websites and I noticed this: Most of the houses seem to require their new members to wear all whites on Bid Day...is this so they can receive their new member pin that night? Just wondering...at Ole Miss I know one house has their new member pinning that night but I know most of the sororities do it within the first week of the New Member Period. Just wondering....

UGA's rush guide for PNMs tells them to wear white for bid day, but the sororities who require it also write it on the bid card (usually) so the girls will be prepared. My house had our first ceremony on bid night, but I don't know about the others.

According to The University of Kentucky's 2006 Sorority Recruitment Information Booklet, this is what you are to wear on Bid Day at UK.

DOs: White or light pastel dress.
DON’Ts: Dark or Bright Colors dresses/shorts.

Bid Day, the last day of Recruitment Week, is the day potential members receive their invitation, or bid, to join a sorority. It is an exciting day when potential members meet their new sorority sisters and pledge the sorority. Traditionally, potential members wear white dresses, but light pastel dresses can also be worn. Pledging ceremonies will be held later in the day, and all new students are encouraged to attend Kentucky Welcome.

FYI: My "old" year books state that wearing white was a "long time tradition" even then. And this from the mid to late 1970s.

Wait. Why would all the new girls not show up after receiving bids? Does that mean they weren't accepting the bids?

Re: BAMA
I think that happens sometimes. Girls get a bid to XYZ sorority and they decide not to go for whatever reasons. It seems a bit odd though that it would be more than like 1 or 2 girls for a few houses. More than that and there is a serious problem with the system. (Just my thoughts).

I've heard of this happening at a few schools because girls did not understand that when you list sororities after prefs, you are listing only the chapters from which you will accept a bid (they thought you get to decide whether or not to accept when the bid was offered). RCs need to make sure this is clear to the young ladies going through recruitment so that this does not happen in the future... think of the girls who may really want a bid from XYZ who don't get one because the spot is filled by someone who isn't planning to show up at all!
