Looks like Britney got caught trying to pull off a publicity stunt.

So in Cali, do you not have to have your marriage license BEFORE you can be married? I just kind of assumed that every state required a marriage license before the ceremony can take place.

I was wondering about that too. In Hawai`i, a marriage license is required or else the ceremony won't be valid. The marriage license is good for one month after its issuance.

I signed a few in Alaska, and it was just before the ceremony, the "official" signed it last after the ceremony took place. If I remember right in California it isn't done by the state, I believe each county handles those records. I'm from San Francisco which is a city and a county all in one, so I wouldn't know.
I am still BARFING at the pink velour suits. The only thing worse would have been UGGS, with a ruffled or pleated mini skirt, an off the shoulder striped top, a poncho with some "signature" handbag, topped off with a trucker hat. I've seen it on campus and it isn't pretty.

Oh yeah, in VA it's handled by the county too, but the entire state requires the marriage license to be obtained before. Then you give it to your officiant, and he/she signs and returns it to the courthouse. But I did hear on the radio this morning that LA county requires it to be obtained within 10 days after the ceremony, so I guess Brit and Kevin are still okay...

I checked out the county website and if you've been previously married within two years you have to provide written proof of when that marriage ended (death/divorce/annulment), or a date if it was more than two years ago. Wouldn't it be amusing if her last marriage didn't officially end and this one wasn't legit? It looks like you can apply for the license but not have it in hand due to processing time.
I wonder if J.Lo will have her license suspended if she tries to get married again, tee-hee.
Also off topic, I read that all the same sex couples that were married in San Francisco can get a refund on their marriage licenses.

Have you seen the People article? Yes, I read it last night on the commute home .
Her actual dress was a beautiful silk Monique Luhillier gown - very simple but with a pretty lacey/detailed edge and slight train. $26,000! BUT, she added her "own touch" - lace fingerless gloves and a lace collar! It was like 1980's prom - in a really bad way!!! Then she changed into another horrible lace, mini-dress fiasco for cake cutting, and then again into her sweatsuit for the party. The bridesmaids looked lovely, though! Really!
Oh, and the People article said a female "minister" did the 15 minute non-denominational ceremony.

In Vancouver you have to have a license before you get married, however it isn't officially legal until it is signed and filed with City Hall. So even if you have it before hand doesn't mean you are legally married.

from what i know, you can file your marriage license for up to 10 days after you're married
and with the kabbalah ceremony.....i think the original wedding in October was supposed to be a kabbalah ceremony but since they decided to get married a lot sooner, it was just non-denominational
and i saw the People magazine. i thought she looked pretty, although i agree with whoever talked about those lace things looking like the 80s....but that's Britney. Some of the photos you can tell were taken specifically for the papparazi, whether they were given to them or they took them themselves. like the one where Kevin is taking the thing (it's late, i cant remember the name of it) off her leg and she has her hands on his head......it looked so staged.
and the "trashy" dress some of you guys were talking about earlier......that was the dress she wore to the reception....in the People magazine she said that she changed because she was hot. i think Britney looked pretty but Kevin could have shaved.
