Same in NYC. We drive through NJ to buy gas because even with the toll, we spend less money.

We're at $2.79. I drive 37 miles a day to work. Yikes! This is killing me!

Prices went up $0.13 last Monday and are expected to go up again $0.14 next week.
$3.20 should be the average.
Great.

It was $2.79 this morning at the station near my house. I won't be at all surprised if it's $2.89 on the way home (Since it's a holiday weekend and all, they'll jack it way up..Grrrr)

Yesterday, as I was driving to work, unleaded was at about $2.59/gal. When I filled up at lunch time, it was $2.65/gal.
Who knows what it is today.
It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I hear news stories about the oil company record profits in the trillions of dollars.
What's wrong with this picture?

My Exxon stock gained 11 cents today. That's it.
Either through a lack of education, or through a desire for sensationalism, the media, that you love so well, has thrown out profit numbers and hasn't discussed capital expenditures. For Exxon, the company has invested more money than it has earned over the past 15 years. They lifted their capex spending several billion to around 20 billion a year.

That would be because that's what the company reports.

Rudith, what do you think of the Vice Fund? Is it worth my spending next year's refund on?

Every year these companies list out capex on their financial statements. Politicians need votes and the media needs an audience right?
In Brazil most people drive cars that run on fuels made from sugars. I believe GM is working on a flexfuel system to do the same here so perhaps these politicians are willing to provide federal funding to GM and the media will provide greater coverage. But that's a long shot since funding GM isn't as hot and idea.

Pittsburgh Promo!!!
The highest our gas has gotten (for regular) in the past few years is $2.89 - yet right now, it's $2.59. We had a Panhellenic Luncheon last week, where every sorority Alumnae Association donates a prize. Ours included close to a $100 in gas coupons (along with a car wash bucket o'goodies) and was one of the most popular!
Does anyone else have a food store (ie: Giant, Giant Eagle) that also has a gas station? For every $50 spent at the grocery, they deduct ten cents off of your gas. The last time I filled up, I had let the points roll over until I paid a whopping 69 cents a gallon!! Of course, you know where I'm shopping for Sunday's dinner - between their prices and the gas situation, you can't afford NOT to do so!
Wrigley, I'll have to PM you a funny story about prices in Chicago and how they continually amaze me. (It's not for mixed company)

If you use your "Safeway Card" at our local Safeway Markets you get between 3 and 6 cents per gallon off.

I paid 30.97 to fill up my car yesterday...it's a honda civic EX...this is ridiculous. Thankfully spring break started yesterday at 2:45, so I can not drive for a few days. I don't want a new car payment, but hybrid sounds good right now.
