Oh my gosh, Leslie, I'm so sorry to hear about this!! I didn't even realize what had happened down there until I read it in the newspapers while I was packing on Thurs.! Even then, I didn't realize that was in your neighborhood. OMG, how scary - was all that bamboo on fire??

Regarding your friend, Nick, I'm grateful to hear that all lives were spared. While losing a house is a BFD, it's just a thing that can be replaced; loved ones cannot be replaced. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that when God closes one door another (eventually) opens - and it is usually for the best. (although it sux in the meantime!)

I'll keep you and your neighbors in my prayers!!!


PS - I'm farther North than FD, and while we got torrential rains, there was no significant damage around here. I was wondering why out of state relatives were calling since I don't watch the news or read a newspaper. (I DO read online news, everyday at work, but was on vacation this week to prepare for my move.)

Thanks everyone! I talked to Nick the other night, and they're all still in good spirits... I don't think it's quite hit them yet... I reiterated to him that my family and I will do whatever we can to help them, so hopefully they'll call if they need something.

Leslie ~ No, thankfully the bamboo didn't catch! We're just SO lucky that it came on Monday, not Sunday -- the way the wire was, it would have caught the bamboo (which burns REALLY fast), our woodpile, our backyard (which was dry as a bone), and within a few minutes, the back of our house. Because it had been raining like crazy Monday morning, the fire stayed contained to an area that's about 2 feet by 15 feet... we were SO LUCKY!!

THEIR HOUSE CAN BE SAVED!!!

I'm SO relieved/excited!! I talked to Nick today, and while the house is still technically "condemned" at this moment, they found out that they'll be able to rebuild that wall that collapsed without causing any problems to the rest of the house! His parents and sister are still in a hotel for now, but work on the house is going to start soon!!

A federal disaster aid grant (or whatever it's called) was approved for people in this area, so they'll be getting money from that and from the state, which will hopefully take care of it.

And, you know, any others that you might want to direct my way for my interview on Tuesday (though that seems superficial in comparision), I wouldn't complain...

I still have to go for an "interview" at the district office, but that's all pure formalities and paperwork. It's mine!!!!! I am the new French and Italian teacher at Lenape High School!!!!

So I am applying for a teaching position within my mother's school district. I am really, really stressing cause I would love to work there. I love the kids and everything. The school district is low income but it's all good in my eyes.

Hey girls, Saturday a great friend of mine who I've known for 7 years was killed in a car accident. Today was her funeral and I'm just having a hard time dealing with her being gone. She was 20 years old and an only child. Please pray for her family and friends, for their comfort. She was the sweetest girl I've ever known.

I will absolutely pray for your friend's family and friends (including YOU)! It's tough to handle when someone is taken from us unexpectedly and at a young age. I will be thinking of her family and friends during this time of loss and transition.

I am the new K-3 Sped Teacher at my mom's school. Funnily my mom and mines classrooms are next door to each other.
