i have - my brother is a student there and AOII was chosen as one of the three finalists to present on that campus just recently.. although AOII turned down the opportunity to present due to other reasons...

Additionally, the story says the house was being cleaned in 1889 - AOII was not even founded until 1897...

that article has been circulating for years... i have been to that house... which now belongs to the university...

additionally, the pineapple was not the symbol of AOII. The pinapple is the symbol of hospitality used since the civil war times in the south... and was used on many building to express hospitality, in fact it is the lapel pin symbol of the Hospitality Industry...

I hope this will clear up some of the misconceptions....

additionally, if you look at teh rest of the stories on the page, i think it will clarify that this is as true as the rest of the stories on the seminole star page.... in case you don't want to look, some of the titles are "Fraternity Returns Pregnant "t Was In The Water", "seminole princess" - a story about a FSU student who will marry Prince William in Nov. 2002,
http://writing.fsu.edu/cwc/fa00/cloweb/public_html

AND if you go back farther to
http://writing.fsu.edu you will see it is a creative writing class website.....

I love a good story as anyone.... but this one is unfortunately untrue!!

I appreciate the help of every greek member who has posted here and tried to dispel the rumors of AOII and FSU. Although people believe what they wish to believe and sometimes don't care to hear the truth, I am sure I speak for other AOII GC members when I say we appreciate your efforts.
This subject has been recently discussed and (I thought) was put to rest at that time. It would be great if everyone could realize that just because you found a "story" on the internet does not mean it happened.

Great authoritative source, ormondbeachgirl. /sarcasm Perhaps you can get an internship with Alexandra Robbins.

Not only are your source's "sources" unverifiable and extremely weak, but she's outright wrong on a number of easily identifiable issues. For instance, if you know so many SigEps at FSU, perhaps they could tell you that their house is nowhere close to being a hundred years old. Furthermore, as a KD you should know that KD was the first sorority established at FSU (then FSCW) in 1904, which provides further verification that there were no AOPis on campus in 1889, much less any that were practicing witchcraft. Finally, if you had in fact called FSU Panhellenic or even checked its website, you would know that not only has AOPi not been "banned," they were one of the three finalists for recolonization this year.

Maybe it's just the UF-FSU rivalry kicking in, but you should save your heated comments for football season, and not unfairly bash another panhellenic organization.

Glad To Help

It makes a good story but there's no truth to it. Not only that, but it's not even a story familiar to the campus. It's simply a good yarn made up for a creative writing class.
I was once named the official "AOPi Pledge Class Sweetheart" back in the day, so I am familiar with the chapter history as well as that house. It was built new in 1960; the AOPi chapter was established at FSCW in 1939. FSCW became FSU in 1947. There is in fact an ancient cemetery behind the house and that helps make for a good story.
Several sororities built new houses at FSU around 1960: Alpha Phi, KKG, and AOPi took on considerable financial burdens that became unbearble when the hippie era hit ten years later. Alpha Phi and AOPi eventually closed and Kappa almost went under. The writer said the University owns the house: no, the U. bought the Alpha Phi house nearby. Both sororities closed about the same time. The AOPi's sold their house to Sigma Phi Epsilon who occupies it today. They were going to move out to the new fraternity row, but decided instead to rennovate the house and stay there. I don't know why AOPi sold the house instead of waiting out the bad times; maybe the financial burden was just too much.
The AOPi chapter was good and I would like to see them return. There's no ban, permanent or any other kind. Hopes this helps.

Well..

It is suppose to be one big thread full of stories that we have heard... The sig ep boys go right along with the story so it would do me no good to ask... Uf-Fsu has nothing to do with... I posted what I had heard... If I was wrong I am wrong.... But its still fun every year to have Bessies Ball and junk like that... So there must be some truth to something If SIGEP every year throws Bessies Ball.. Come on now... Seriously don't jump down my throat If i'm wrong I'm wrong.... But its still fun everytime I walk in Sigep to think of ghost.... Oh and btw the tunnels posted in the story ARE 100% REAL.... I have seen with my own eyes.... To chicken to crawl through them but they are 100% real!!!! As is her grave!!! I no longer care about this subject.... Its wasting my time to fight with people I don't know....

Second I would never get a job for Alexandra Robbins her book offened me.... As a KAPPA DELTA I can say we are not the klans daughters one bit... She needs to learn to keep secrets locked away in the bond of sisterhood and those girls who helped her need to be kicked out because they broke the bond of sisterhood!!!! I love KAPPA DELTA!!!!

The article says they were banned because of the witchcraft but they never proved the murder. If this really is true, it is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING that FSU would continue a ban that was based on a conflict of religion. If I EVER met a Wiccan Soror, I would love her unconditionally, as I love ALL my Sorors!!!

I LOVE my Theta Nu!

ETA: This rant is not directed at OrmondBeachGirl. It's specifically for FSU and that's all good because I'm a Georgia BULLDOG!
In response to a PM I got from an AOII sister, I wanted to clarify my position. I was not in any way suggesting that AOII did anything wrong.

I was saying how awful it would be for a school to ban anyone for being Wiccan. The problem is that things get blown out of proportion. Witchcraft doesn't involved killing anyone or using the things that the article mentions were found in the house.

Anyway, I specifically said If this is really true. I never said I believed it or supported any decision made. So, please, before you accuse me of slander, get your facts straight.

If you're going to call me out, do it in the open forum, not over PM.

It's not supposed to be things that are detrimental to other sororities' reputations. Talking about a ghost in the XYZ house that likes to do laundry is not on the same par with spreading untrue rumours that have already been refuted further up the thread. It's a story from a creative writing class and not in the least bit true. Learn how to read (and spell while you're at it).

Bessie isn't dead because she never existed. Do you honestly think a party is an indication of anything being true?

Don't put stupid slanderous stuff on here and expect to get away with it.

Wow, so in order to avoid this thread being burned away from all of the heated comments, does anyone have another cool story about Greek ghosts in your house or interesting facts?

I find it interesting that you are so incensed about inappropriate things that were written about Kappa Delta but you are more than willing to put untruths about another sorority out on Greekchat for everyone to see.

Wow how old are we?

And no one was ever saying that any crap Alexandra Robbins made up was true. We're not calling you a KKK sympathizer.
