Joan was working a nerve. I seriously hope that the producers don't draw out this Joan- William thing. I wish she would just tell him and see what happens because Monica is not all that.

Can someone please tell me what did Joan do to her hair and makeup when she went to Maya's party? Joan looked a HOT MESS to say the least. Personally, I think her ponytail and her eye makeup were JACKED UP !!

I meant to say that she always looked thick on the current show. Yeah, she was much thinner in The Craft.

Ok, I was on the phone when this ep came on, but I did see enough to know that Joan's hair was so janky that it wasn't even funny. I kept saying to my girlfriend on the phone....what in the world and why?!!!

I'm a little on the fence about the direction Girlfriends is taking. It seems that the more "mainstream" UPN tries to get with shows like Kevin Hill and Veronica Mars, the more cartoonish the characters on their core "black" comedies become. When GF first started, I could draw parallels between their lives and the lives of my friends. Now they're all playing "types" and watching it sometimes makes me uncomfortable. Toni belching every five minutes? I've never known a pregnant woman who was that crass, and I've known some COUNTRY pregnant women. Joan's neuroses? It was cute, but she's this close to representing the stereotypical "black woman who thinks she's nothing without a man" and Maya's starting to move into "Sapphire" territory. It's scary - the most centered member of the ensemble seems to be Lynn, and I for one never saw that coming.

Is anyone else conflicted when they watch the show, or am I overanalyzing things?

I "see" you Sistermadly. It used to be that I would catch every epsidoe of "Girlfriends." I actually forgot about it yesterday (got caught up watching Law & Order:SVU).

I'm wondering if the writers have changed because one can have a successful comedy without it being "cartoonish." I already had to suspend belief in order to buy into that the thought that all of these women could be friends much less "girlfriends" now they're really testing my patience (and insulting my intelligence) with the direction they're taking this show in.

I can totally see your points of view. I have my circle of friends and while we might a Joan, Toni, Lynn, or Maya moment, I don't believe any of those characters are doing a good job at showing Black women anymore.

Why can't Joan focus on new career path? Forget William!! Hello, he used to be intimate with Lynn!!

Toni, get more therapy and become a better person. If Todd comes back, cool, but if not recognize your mistakes and strive to get yourself together to raise a mentally healthy child.

Maya, Boo, your book got you a little dinero but you are still GHETTO FABULOUS to the max!

Lynn, geez, you are the most normal of them all RIGHT NOW.

I saw her on an episode of the Cosby Show when Theo was going to be an industrial psychologist. So, I'm thinking she's alot older than I thought.

I HATED that plait in Joan's head. HOT MESS!!

I'm not sure what direction the show is going in. I wonder if they are gonna make Toni lose the baby. And why did Maya look white in Monday's episode???

I think it might be a wrap for this show. The direction they're going in just makes my head hurt.

Yeah. I am ready to put this show in the ground. I am sure this is the last season since it is now on UPN during the week here in Charlotte as well as on BET.

Joan dressy on top (purple) and messy on bottom (green fatigue pants)

Lynn as a miming robot.

Maya will lose her job the very next time she talks.

Toni, narcoleptic pregnant woman.

I agree with y'all. After last week's episode, I started to take it off of my DVR list, but I decided to give it another shot. I found that the show was just getting on my nerves, and I get enough of that at work every day.

Toni really got on my nerves tonite, but I'm glad they made her appreciate the baby. I think this may be the last season. What more can they do?

It's official. I'm going back to watching Law & Order:SVU on Monday nights. Can someone send me a PM when 'Girlfriends' starts to get good again? Thanks.
