I was thinking of going to a school in Washington State (small dance college) and their mascot is the Cornish Game Hen... yeah, the things you eat...
And in the Mtn. West division we have the Wyoming Cowboys and the Utah Utes... if anyone knows what a Ute is, could you please let me know...

a Ute is a member of the Native American tribe of the same name.
Delta State University's mascot is the Fighting Okra
Arkansas Tech's mascot is the Wonderboys for the guys - because they won a football game 84 years ago that means absolutely nothing, but they still think it does.

goucher college, about 5 min away is the gophers (that was actually one of the big reasons i didnt go there)
university of delaware (i went there for a while) - blue hens. but if you want to get technical, i think our mascot, you-dee, is a male, so that would make udel the blue cocks, but i some how dont think that would go over so well with alot of the alum

Sports Illustrated did an article a couple of years back with the top 10 strangest college mascots. My school was #2 (and I think still remains in that spot), behind the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. I went to Oglethorpe University where we were the Stormy Petrels. Apparently a petrel was a seagull-like bird which had oily skin and sailors used to set them on fire and follow them as they flew through storms to find their way. Hence why they're extinct. Anyhow, the mascot we have looks like a seagull standing up with a puffed-up chest. I was a college cheerleader and there is nothing harder than that first season when you realize you sound like an idiot yelling "Go Stormy Petrels"! There's been talk of ESPN airing a baseball or basketball game between us and UCSC since we have the #1 and #2 strangest mascots. Would love to see that! haha
