So far, I think the guys are better than the girls this year. Let's see if my opinion holds up after the gals sing tonight.

Unless you have a rock-n-roll voice like Melissa Ethridge, you DO NOT sing Janis Joplin. Especially if you're going to make it country sounding. She butchered the song.

My favorite from the night was Amanda Avila but I don't think many people like her so I wouldn't be surprised if she went home.

Well, I didn't hear anything tonight to change my mind. I think the guys are better.

Would someone please fire tonight's stylist? All the outfits looked terrible except for Carrie's and Vonzell's.

Yep. She did Faith Hill's version mixed in with Janis' version of the chorus. It was most certainly meant to sound more like Faith, since Carrie is supposed to be the country girl.

Amen sister. (in the literal and figurative sense. he he)

I love Carrie. I think she has this amazing and fresh voice. I think she is adorable. I have to admit I voted for her three times just because the judges were such butts.

I really think Carrie could go far. Heck the AZ Republic gave odds that Carrie would be the next AI.

Is THAT why it sounded so country? BF and I were sitting watching and wondering why. Then BF said "gee, somewhere in heaven, Janis is smokin' and shakin' her head."

However if it was supposed to be Faith's version (which I don't think I've heard enough...) then so be it.

Overall... blah. Bored to tears.

I want to know what strings (or paycuts) Clive Davis had to threaten to get Alicia Keys to pass over her songs to 19E and AI. Alicia is her own being, which is what makes her famous. Tonight just sounded like a bad karaoke competition. Vonzell was better on her impression than Aloha was, but still.

Janay seriously looked like a deer in headlights her entire performance. I think she will be the one to go. Simon's right... she's too young and I don't think she quite understands that the crowds get BIGGER as the competition goes on. If she is having trouble with this small of an audience... think about the Kodak Theater... and tours.

I missed Jessica's which was apparently was the best of the night. Oh well... I wasn't digging the shirt though. Or Amanda's for that matter.

I agree that AI needs new stylists... or to stop giving the contestants H & M gift certificates and telling them to pick what they want. Whatever will save us all from their fashion blunders.

I like subdued-Mikalah. I didn't like the turtleneck she had on... but a quiet Mikalah is a good Mikalah.

Yep. That's exactly why is sounded SO country. She really did a good job on Faith's version.

I heard Faith's version before I ever heard Janis' version. The two really do sound very different.

After hearing Janis, though, nothing compares...

But, I DO think she did a good job. I like that she took the two versions and combined them. It was a nice twist.

I just don't think the judges were familiar with Faith's version. Maybe someone will let them listen to it before tomorrow's show. For them to claim to know about more genres than just pop they sure don't seem to know about country.

I am totally with you. Boo to the Judges for not knowing what was going on. BUT, as much as I love Carrie, she could've mentioned something to the Judges regarding her Faith Hill rendition.

My all-around favorites
Carrie Underwood
Lindsey Cardinale
Jessica Sierra
Mikalah Gordon
Amanda Avila, an impressive performance tonight

I was thinking the same thing at first, but then I thought that maybe she didn't want to come across like she's making whiny excuses.

I didn't know it was Faith Hill, but I knew I had heard a country version of that song before. I can't believe the judges didn't have a clue that there already existed a country version of it! I thought Carrie did a good job. She's still my favorite female.

Now, I did not know that there had been a country remake of that song. Old hippie that I am, I thought she was just jacking with a rock and roll classic.

To begin with, it sounded like they were having microphone problems because almost everyone was fading in and out.

Aloha - Awful...I didn't really think she was all that great last week either, but this week she just stunk.

Lindsey - Same as Aloha, they were both forgettable.

Jessica - I really like her for some reason. Even though she had a few off notes, it was overall a good performance and better than last week.

Mikalah - She can sing, but I don't like her at all. At least she was less annoying this week (like Simon said, it's because she didn't talk).

Celena - Another forgettable performance; I think it's her week to go.

Nadia - I just don't get the buzz around her (same as Fantasia, I didn't like her either). She has a good voice, but I don't see any real personality or anything that makes me interested in her voice or her style.

Amanda - I think she totally redeemed herself this week. She has the star look and personality. I hope she continues to improve and win over the voters.

Janay - Much better song choice for her, but doesn't connect with the audience/camera. She looks uncomfortable on stage. She *may* last one more week because she was featured so much early on, she improved, and a lot of her competition had blah performances.

Carrie - I didn't see what the big deal was about Carrie last week, but I did like her this week. I thought it was a good song choice and she had presence.

Vonzell - Not great at all, but she did enough to stay in this week. She might even make the top six girls if others continue to do badly or if the voters get sick of all the country-sounding girls.

My choices to go this week are:
Celena and Janay (alternate - Lindsey)
