Man, that's a sign of not knowing the language.
Cutiepatootie, didn't you say that people who don't know the language should be deported?
So...don't let the door hit ya...I'm sure you know the rest.

The relevance of your opinion has nothing to do with what threads you participate in on GC. It's hard to take someone seriously when she is presenting an argument that includes racial slurs and grammatical mistakes that a seventh grader wouldn't make.
Please give me one example of how your rights have been pushed aside or ignored because of someone who is in the U.S. without the required paperwork.

Where I live, this is a very touchy subject. Here is my opinion.
I drive through two hours of ranch land when I go home. Usually at night, if you look, it is easy to see people creeping through the mesquite trees. Every mile, you will also see a border patrol man and a huge spot light that can light up an area for miles. In the hot sun, you will see people walking along the railroad tracks. Friends have told me that is when they have given up. Their tired, need cool air and water and are asking to get picked up. The hot summer Texas sun, who wouldn't be tired.
I've also visited many places in Mexico. Not just Cancun, but places who do not benefit from vacationer's money. I've seen the poverty, homes, and little to no means of ever working for a better life.
Hell, visiting a border town like Nuevo Progreso, you will see adults and children with cut open milk jugs willing to catch any change you are willing to throw down. If it reaches the ground, you better believe they are dog piling for it.
So, when they try and cross over for a better life, I respect them for doing what they have to. Sometimes, it is all you can do to provide. Most people will work and send all their money home. However, I would prefer they do it the right way and gather their papers first. This is possible and if my grandmother can become a US citizen at the age of 12, anyone can. And when they do, they should get all the same benefits I expect as a citizen.
Sorry if I repeated what someone else said...I'm too tired to read through pages.
I see how the topic changed into that one "w" word. I don't like that word. But, oh well, there are a lot of words I don't like and people still say. I know I never will.

Living in a state that has massive illegal immigration where it is a serious problem, I have some pretty strong opinions on it.
The AZ border sucks. Hundreds (if not thousands) cross illegally into AZ every year. Then they are stupid and they cross in the middle of the summer (hello our summers are 115). Then their families in Mexico think they have every right in the world to SUE ARIZONA because their family member died. Correct me if I'm wrong, their family member CAME ILLEGALLY INTO ARIZONA!!! They have no right to sue us, especially when it would be my tax dollars paying for the lawsuit.
The healthcare system in AZ sucks. Why am I (again through taxes) paying for illegals to have health insurance when LEGALS can't get it. Hello issues there!!!!
I fully supported prop. 201 (or it might be 202). The law went into effect, honestly I don't even think it has gone into effect yet because the illegal immigrants are fighting it (talk about oxymoron). It was voted on in November though. The prop. pretty much said that illegal immigrants can't get a drivers liscence, voter registration card or apply and receive government benefits (ie. food stamps, AHCCCS (healthcare)). The problem is is that the illegal immigrants and their lawyers are saying that they can't go to ER's. That's not what the prop is saying. If you have a dire medical emergency, they have to treat you. But if you are going to use the ER as your doctors office, then they don't have to see you. Again, my tax dollars shouldn't be paying for them to get benefits that I ALMOST DIDN'T GET and I'm a LEGAL resident of the state and the country.
Now you have noticed I'm not saying up and deport them. That would cost even more money, which AZ just does not have. But somethings gotta give.
I'm not sure if y'all heard about this but in 2002 (or it was 2003) four students from Wilson High School were on a field trip to NY for a science competition. They were at Niagra Falls. Being they are hispanic, they stuck out like sore thumbs and were detained. INS found out that their parents had brought these children (four different families) into the country illegally when the children were around the ages of 5-7. None of them new anything but the United States. INS has been trying to deport them for the last two-three years. A judge ruled last week that they didn't have to leave the US. I should mention that all four of these kids are making something of their lives. They are going to school, working good jobs. In essence they aren't being a drain on the Arizona economy.
As for speaking the language. As much as I feel they all (no matter what country your from) need to learn English. If you go to another country, yes you might run into quite a few people who know English (a lot of countries are making their school age children learn English) but you shouldn't expect it. Which means you should learn the language. Whether it's taking a crash course before you go or taking a dictionary. You need it to communicate.
With that being said, it's not going to happen (learning of English), especially in states like Arizona where we cater to people speaking Spanish. Because we cater to them, some (not all) will never learn English. Which means they will never have a high paying job, they will never go to college (because let's face it, your going to have to know some English to succeed in a four year school, plus 4 years schools make you take and pass a test to check your English). So because we cater to them, they never learn English, they never get to the high paying jobs, they become the drain on the economy.
I should mention that this is not to say that non immigrants don't behave this way. My friend is a perfect example. She barely graduated high school. She has a job at JC Penny Outlet, where she makes at most 9 bucks an hour. Has three kids. She has to relay on a tremendous amount of government assistance. Now, I love my friend but my tax money is going to pay for her choices which some, where just not the wisest.
These are just my opinions.
Agree with me, disagree with me but respect that they are my opinions.

The language thing got me thinking. It reminded me of something a professor once told me.
"We expect everyone in the US to speak English. Then we go overseas, and expect everyone there to speak English, too."

This is so true!! I was thinking about this earlier today while I was trying to order from a restraunt in English. I just moved to Montreal and even though I took 4 years of French, I do not understand (je ne comprend pas!!!) Quebecer French. And I feel bad, kind of embarassed because they are forced to speak English to me, and I know how frustrating it is. I think people who come to the US should be able to speak English....anyway, point is that I know how they feel about me because I feel the same way about many of the people where I come from in Texas! Learn the language of where you are. Plain and simple. Don't expect everyone else to adapt to you! (Remember, i am speaking to myself here mostly!!!!!!!!!)

I was thinking about this as I was watching the Amazing Race. They were in China and the airline agent was able to rattle off English. When I worked in customer service we were like if the account holder spoke Chinese or Japanese.

BUMP
Now that we're having some state of emergencies here, I'd like to see some more discussion.
But hey, I'm the thread killer, so thank you to whoever posts after this.
