Before school started last fall, my mom was so freaked out she almost wanted me to not go.
I'm not loving driving an hour to and from school each day, but its better than the paralyzing fear I felt from being alone in BR, with roomates who didn't give a damn about the serial killer or about me (i.e., they would refuse to go places in pairs - I asked them to go to office depot with me after school one day - and they sat in the car the whole time!)
Maybe I'm a big baby, but yes, I'm 23 years old and it feels much better to be safe at home with my mommy when nightitme comes!

I thought this was well worth the time it takes to read. Though only an excerpt, the link is provided.
Godwin's profile is based on where the serial killer's victims lived and where their bodies were found. In his analysis of the cases, Godwin believes the killer's home is near LSU.
"Around the College Town and the University Lake area, specifically around West Lakeshore Drive," Godwin said.
Two of the killer's victims, Pace and Green, were murdered in their homes near LSU. The third victim, Kinamore, lived further east. She was taken from her home and found in Iberville Parish. Colomb, the killer's fourth victim, was from Lafayette. Her body was found in Scott. Yoder lived just blocks from Green and Pace.
Godwyn said the crime scenes form a significant triangular shape.
"He's probably been travelling this area for years, going to visit relatives, going shopping, his work, travels, whatever," Godwin said. "That's the reason he knows this only limited, narrow, triangle-shaped pattern, and it runs from Baton Rouge down toward Whiskey Bay down toward Lafayette."
Godwyn said he doesn't think it's coincidence that Yoder was abducted from the same area where Pace and Green were killed, nor does he find it coincidence that Yoder's body was found in the same place as Kinamore's eight months earlier. The difference, he said, is that Yoder was found in water, while Kinamore was found on shore -- a sign that the killer may be responding to detective's reports that they are only connecting murders linked by DNA. The reports may be pushing the killer to get rid of that evidence.
"I stated several times on radio, TV and on my Web site -- even as far back as months ago -- that future victims would be found in water. This is based on years of research."

I haven't posted in awhile because I've been up to my ears in Greek Assessment stuff and I probably won't be around because I'll be planning my big sis (that's right Theta'sBig Sis) the best darn Bridal Shower ever! But of course I have an opinion on all that's going on and I'll be back soon.
These articles made me cry but I think it was good to show how the victims are just like us....
http://www.theadvocate.com/stories/0...arrie001.shtml
I also found a message board from Wafb's website
....amen sister is all i have to say First, I applaud the decision to have Cpl Kelly conduct the briefing. Cpl Kelly is articulate, personable and treated the subject as well as the public with respect. Mercifully, he is not in the least bit annoying or condescending.
Second, although the investigation into Ms Yoder's disappearance is still in the early stages, I appreciate the efforts on behalf of the press to provide as much timely and reasonably accurate information as possible. They have recognized the urgency of the public's need and right to know. Likewise, the pressure the university has begun to apply is most welcome and will benefit not just the campus but the community at large. I am especially grateful for the question Paul Gates asked of Ms Godawa today, "With all due respect, how can you feel comfortable with this investigation ?" How, indeed ! Kudos to Mr Gates for asking the question all of South Louisiana wants to know. If the situation were not so deadly seriously it would have been almost amusing to see how abruptly the press conference ended after that question was asked and then evaded.
Lastly, I would like to know the answer to a couple of questions that were not asked today. If the police department will not or can not say whether Ms Yoder's (alleged) abductor entered or exited by the front or back door, and since we apparently know the back door was found open, was the front door locked or unlocked when Ms Yoder's boyfriend or the police department arrived at the house ? Monday was an ugly, rainy day, not at all the kind of day one would leave a door open, certainly not after dark. We're told there was no sign of forced entry, we see CSI first dusting the front door presumably for prints, then we see the front door removed and taken to the crime lab. It does not appear the same degree of attention was given to the open backdoor. Why not ?
The press and the public has given the "Multi-agency Task Force" sufficient time and space to go about their work. Now the time has come for them to produce solid results. No more protecting their turf, no more insulting responses. If they cannot do the job then get someone who can. It is unconscionable to learn that John Douglas was in this city in recent weeks but was not consulted. Mr Douglas and Dr Robert Keppel are two renown investigators who have had real success in tracking down serial killers. Both have said they would be happy to assist yet neither have been consulted.

ThetaLove, I read the article from her BF's interview...so sad.
Another thing the time line has pointed to is the murders seem to coincide with "breaks"- Spring, Thanksgiving, Mardi Gras. Godwin feels it's because less people traffic exists.
From what you and Juniorgrrl have said, it does make me angry to learn the evidence is not being shared. The whole investigation
seems to have gaping holes.
Good luck with the shower and to your big sis-congratulations and best wishes for your upcoming marriage.
I have to edit this to add-The thread is now 11 pages long. How many more pages will there be if/when thy solve this case.
Worse yet, how may more names will be added to the list...

That makes me so angry!!!
It is the police's job to "serve and protect"! If I need help doing my job, I'll ask for help, so why can't they swallow their pride and ask for help???? This isn't a hide-and-go-seek game to see who can find the killer first! Its sad to say, but I bet if this guy goes after a cop next, then they would ask for help with this case.
One of the girls I work with (here at LSU) thinks she was followed home on Fri. afternoon. She sees this guy on campus regularly, usually when she walks to her car in the afternoon. She said he never looked at her before, he would always look the other way. On Friday, he looked at her and said "Hello", she said hi, and walked past him. He mumbled something, she said it sounded like, "see you later". She lives in central, and takes the interstate home. She said he followed her on the interstate and he kept driving on the side of her, then he would speed up and get a few cars ahead of her, and then slow down in her lane. When all the cars in between them would go around him, she would get behind him, and he would stare at her in his rearview mirror, but he wouldn't even look at her when he was on the side of her. He kept speeding up, then slowing down, and she got his license plate number. He was driving a white Ford SUV. He followed her all the way to central, and turned off into ACE Hardware in central.
She went to the police on Sat. and told them what happend. When they pulled up his license, she read all his information, and they even printed out his picture. They wouldn't tell her why they had his picture. He had about 5 cars come up on his record, too. They said that he lives on Staring Ln. We looked him up in the phone book and it lists his address on Staring too, which is very far from central. Staring is kinda by LSU off Highland Rd. She said she is going to look for him today and see if he follows her.
In the LSU newspaper today, they quoted a professor from New York and he said that he thinks the serial killer has some ties to LSU.
Another thing, I think all the male LSU employees should give their DNA. This guy may not even have any ties to LSU, but I think that this investigation should start somewhere. I know the police would say it would be too expensive to swab every employee, but I think if they held a fund raiser at the rally's at the State Capitol, they could raise more than enough money.
Also, on the news this past weekend, they stated that the police COULD find out the killer's race and approx. age from his DNA, but they would have to send it off to a lab out of state and it could take a few weeks and they "DON'T KNOW IF IT WOULD BE WORTH IT TO SEND IT OFF TO ANOTHER LAB".

Oh my lord are you joking?! Lives are at stake. I have been praying for everyone in that area. That's got to be a terrifying situation. When the police don't do their jobs, that's when the vigilantes take over. Maybe that's what it'll come to. In any case, I hope this is all over soon and the students of LSU can feel safe again.

I'm back again, it seems i just can't stay away. I agree with the swabbing all male employees. I don't know anything about DNA but I'm almost positive that they can do something like preliminary DNA testing and rule out the ones that are definately not matches- this doesn't take as long. then do further testing to see which one is an exact match. yes this would be expensive and time consuming. i quote Governor Foster when I say that "money is no object in this investigation."
I've heard, and this could be rumors. that a few years ago when all those black prostitutes were being murdered that no DNA was being taken from the crime scenes because they thought it was just the prostitutes customers. If this is true, that is terrible. just because they were prostitutes doesn't mean they don't deserve the same respect as everyone else. Any murdered person and their family deserves that justice be done in their case. I don't know if it is true, but funny how it isn't talked about much, even when it first happened. it was like, oh well.

Just to update:
Today in the Reveille a female student wrote in and congratulated LSU for having more campus police on patrol. I'm really proud of LSU, I just hope they can keep it up!

I love these guys......
http://www.wafb.com/Global/story.asp?S=1198903
i'm thinking about skipping class to go to the rally, should be interesting.
this story broke a couple of days ago, but a lot of people didn't hear about it .....
http://www.wafb.com/Global/story.asp?S=1196813
stay safe everyone and pray for our troops!
Edited to add.....Big sis i don't agree with you 100% on being so proud of the LSUPD. I have seen them during the day, but I have yet to see a single one patrolling at any of my night classes. And anyway, why thank someone for doing something they should do anyway. Let's all give ourselves a round of applause for getting up today and going to work or class (even though i might skip thurs)

Who's going to the rally???
here is some info.STUDENT RALLY
AGAINST
THE SERIAL KILLER
THURSDAY, MARCH 27 @ 1:00
It is time we stood next to the families of these victims. It is time our voice is heard. It is time we take action to prevent future victims. It is time we take back our community. CALLING ON ALL LSU STUDENTS TO JOIN US AT THE PARADE GROUNDS.
Come listen to a variety of speakers-Family members of the innocent victims, Rep. Yvonne Welch, CASK, Baton Rouge Police, LSU Officials, and your fellow LSU Students.
Come out to the Parade Grounds Thursday at 1:00. A wealth of information will be given to increase personal awareness. Safety tips will be passed out, and expert advice will be available. Free classes are being offered, come and sign-up. Learn all the information you can to decrease the likelihood of becoming a victim. Learn how to establish a bond with your neighbors to increase safety awareness. Learn how to become a proactive citizen in this investigation.
We need LSU Students to take part in this community issue. LSU represents a huge portion of the population, let us be heard. Let us show up and say, “Enough already!” We need to start asking questions. We need to stop being passive, and start being aggressive. We need to report suspicious persons and activities no matter how silly it may seem. We need to take on a much more proactive role-it is our job as citizens!
Bring your friends, your family members, your neighbors, and your coworkers, bring anyone possible. Let’s get the word out now. We need this community to be as informed as possible.
Don’t be worried about making a complaint about an innocent man. WHY? Because if he is innocent the police can easily rule him out with DNA evidence. Do not think twice, report your concerns to the police immediately.
Did you know the police will have to go through so many false reports before they get the actual serial killer? It is part of the process. With every suspicious man reported and then eliminated, the police get closer to the serial killer. It is called process by elimination.
REPORT ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. DO NOT RELY ONLY ON A PARTICULAR DESCRIPTION. TAKE AN ACTIVE ROLE AND LET’S GET THIS DONE WITH!
For all tips concerning the Serial Killer, Please don’t hesitate to call the Task Force Hotline: 389-3310

.........I wonder if HE will be there...watching.
Today I read that they are adding more self defense classes, planning on adding more lights and setting up a security number to report burned out lights or broken locks. Not too impressed. ALL of these steps should be a GIVEN! But, if they add more security personel, THAT would impress me.
I honestly think the dorms are much safer than living off campus.
Next year Baby Girl is in the house. For some reason I feel pretty good about that as long as they keep this in the forefront. I know there will be more people around and that way, she will be less likely to risk going ANYWHERE alone. I am dreading the summer...
If someone goes to the rally, PLEASE post an say how it went.
edited-I hope the police video tape the crowd. Hubby also thinks the killer might show up-just to show he can.

I think the killer might show up to the rally too. I am going because I asked my professor and she said she is ending class early today so we can go. I'll tell ya'll how it went. I think that we need to get the message across that we won't stand for this and that he will be caught. Who knows if he shows up to the ones they have every month at the capital. Kinda freaky in the reveille yesterday about some abandoned warehouse across the street from Carrie Yoder's house that her boyfriend believes the serial killer stalked her. He doesn't really see how anyone could have stalked her because he or her professor were with her 90% of the time.
stay safe everyone.
JAM, i would say don't worry about your daughter, but that would be ridiculous. However, trust that she is smart and that you have taught her well.

Just to update....Last night, there was a meeting here on campus and students got to ask questions to LSU Chancellor Mark Emmerett, and Police Cheif Pat Englade. I didn't even know they were having such a meeting (I don't think they told many people about it). The students were asking questions about having all LSU employees and students swabed for DNA. They were told that there wasn't enough money to swab everyone, but if the public keeps calling in tips, they will investigate each tip.
Govenor Foster says "Money is not an object", yet he also says that "NO ONE has contacted me asking for money" (for the serial killer case).
If Gov. Foster leaves it up to the police, they will NEVER ask for money to catch this guy. Gov. Foster needs to speak out and tell the police that this is UNACCEPTABLE! In my opinion, he should tell them that he will either give money to put twords DNA testing, or he will raise money for it. Also, people who have studied serial killers need to be contacted, like those 2 men who were in town a few weeks ago. If the police are at a dead end, and all they have to go on is tips from the public, then they need to ask for some HELP !!!! Enough is enough, I'm tired of being scared to walk from my car to my apartment, or to the store, or anywhere else.
In the Reveille today, it said that the "Task Force" will be in the parking lot behind the Union from 11am to 7pm today taking tips from students.
I have a feeling that the tone of the rally today is going to be angry! And we have every right to be angry!

The rally was great, LSU Chancellor Mark Emmertt, Murray Pace's mother, Pam Kinamore's mother, and Yvonne Welsh (I don't know if that's how to spell her name) spoke. Also, the CASK organization was there handing out fliers, buttons, and T-shirts. Tons of media cameras were there also. It lasted about 30-45 minutes. Yvonne Welsh really gave a good speech. She said that she wanted every male in BR to volunteerly give their DNA. She also said that if you were a male and you didn't have anything to worry about, then step up and give your DNA to rule yourself out. She said she wanted to have her son and her husband swabed to eliminate them. Also, she said that if too many people say that it violates their rights, she will pass a bill to MAKE them give their DNA. She said that if the killer comes after her, we will all read about it in the paper becuase she is going to get him.

I found this interesting letter in the LSU Reveille:
Chief's statement angers viewer
I am totally disgusted with the comments made by the Baton Rouge Chief of Police last night. At the Wednesday night town hall meeting, he said the reason he is not bringing in outside experts to help with the serial killer case is that he doesn't want them writing books and signing movie deals after the case is over.
First of all, if an outside expert can solve this case and catch the killer, I say by all means write a book, make a movie, etc.; you've earned it. Secondly, I think the real reason he doesn't want outsiders in the investigation is that he is worried that they will uncover the gross incompetence of the Baton Rouge police force. So far they have not compiled one shred of evidence pointing to the identity of the killer, and they don't have any leads.
The Chief of Police seems to be more concerned with his image than catching this brutal murderer. I ask Governor Foster to remove this case from the police's hands and give it to the FBI. It's only a matter of time before another beautiful, young girl is slaughtered by this monster.
Also LSU should have uniformed security personnel placed in all the main buildings of campus, especially the Life Sciences building.
David Harlan
New Orleans, LA
Does anyone know how to start a pettition?? I would like to get a pettition going to get the police OFF this case, and to raise money for DNA testing. I know I'm not the only person who feels this way.
