I just rented "Y Tu Mama Tambien" translated "And Your Mother Too" It was great! Its a Mexican film that came out someime last year about to teenage boys who go on a roadtrip with the Spanish wife of one of their cousins. Coming of age kinda movie. Beware that there is a lot of gratuitous sex so avoid it if that bothers you.

My list........
I know that you guys listed these movies already, but I had to post them along with my comments as well....
American Beauty- this movie was really good!!! I thought it was sad what happened to Kevin Spacey in the end.
Freeway- I was CTFU the whole movie! Reese Witherspoon was a nutcase (but in a funny way) and when she messed up Kiefer Sutherland and watched him on TV and said, "I can't get it up anymore, but I have a beautiful smile." That was classic!!!!!
Usual Suspects- it surprised the mess out of me. I didn't watch the whole thing at first, but my mother convinced me to do so and I thanked her for that sooooo much!!!!
The Sixth Sense- the ending surprised me, but when I watched it again, it all made sense.
Cruel Intentions- now this movie was wild for the night!!!!!!! I was soooo mad at Sarah Michelle Gellar for what she did to those guys, but then again, that was her plan anyway. And revenge was definitely sweet for Resse!!!!!
Silence of the Lambs- this and Hannibal were really great! Hannibal is almost indescribable, but what shocked the mess outta me was when they showed the Top 10 Most Wanted List for the FBI and OSAMA BIN LADEN was on it!!!!!
Thelma and Louise- this is the ultimate chick flick, besides Waiting to Exhale. I could watch this over and over again and not get tired of it.
Kalifornia- Brad Pitt was a madman! And the sex scene with him and Juliette Lewis was insane! I wanted to slap the crap out of him b/c of how he treated Juliette!
Pay it Forward- this movie really touched me b/c I love doing community service. Haley Joel Osment's idea was brilliant, but I'm not sure that I'd do something like that in real life. That would involve a certain level of risk taking that I'm not ready for at this point in my life. If I become wealthy, then I'll think about it.
Those are my rays of light ladies. Until next time!!!!!!!

Outside of the movies already mentioned,
I would have to add A.I to the list. (Artificial Intelligence). IT was a way out movie. It kept me in "what if" mode.

I just had to comment!!
I am serious movie buff so some of these movies might not have been seen by all!
Dancing in the Dark
features Bjork and others on a wild and trippy ride.
Pink Floyd: The Wall
Of the hook ass movie
The Royal Tenenbaums
The absolute best portrayal of how screwed up families are these days. Royal is my man!
Heaven help Us!
Went to private school can relate
Diablo
feature Vin Diesel and Lorenz Tate
don't know when or if it will ever come out but if you can get it from the man at the currency exchange (hint!) It will be well worth it.
Exitenz
DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE HIGH OFF OF BARBITUATES
Allegra Geller is some video game guru and she makes this new game where you go back and forth, in and out of the game. catch is the game is plugged into a hole in your spine. whew!

New Movie: Baby of the Family-Seeking Distribution
Release Date: TBA 2003
Distributor: Currently seeking distribution in the USA.
Production Company: DownSouth Filmworks
Cast: Sheryl Lee Ralph (Mamie), Loretta Devine (Delores), Vanessa Williams (Gloria), Salli Richardson (Nelli McPherson), Alfre Woodard (Rachel), Cylk Cozart (Jonah McPherson), Pam Grier (Mrs. Williams), Todd Bridges (Ted), William Diehl (Jukebox Man), Afemo Omilami, CCH Pounder (Nurse Bloom), Nykki L. Starr (The Bad Ghost), Tonea Stewart (Miss Bessie Mae), Vernee Watson-Johnson (Sarah's Mother)
Director: Jonee' Ansa (debut; husband of the author)
Music: Afrika P. Ansa (score; she is the daughter of Jonee' and Tina), Patrice Rushen
Screenwriter: Jonee' Ansa, Tina McElroy Ansa (debuts; the two are also husband/wife)
Based Upon: The novel of the same title by Tina McElroy Ansa. The story is also based upon the folklore about people born with cauls over their heads as infants having the ability to see ghosts. The good news is that if this film is successful, the novel had a sequel, The Hand I Fan With. The book-on-tape version was narrated by Sheryl Lee Ralph, one of this movie's costars.
Premise: This is the story of Lena McPherson, who was born with a caul over her face, enabling her to see ghosts from the past and visions of the future. As a young woman, living in the "mythical" small 1950's Georgia town of Mulberry, her abilities continue to grow, plaguing Lena with sleepwalking and visions of the dead...
Filming: Production started on February 18th, 2002 with locations to include St. Simons Island and Macon, Georgia, and wrapped in late March, 2002. This was originally scheduled to start filming in August, 2000, and was then rescheduled for July, 2001, then early September, 2001, then October 8th, 2001, then November 30th, 2001, and then, December 31st, 2001
Genre: African-Americans, Based on a Novel, Drama, Supernatural
Official Author Site: TinaMcElroyAnsa.com

I loved this book. I hope they find distribution soon. I would love to see book to movie transition.

Obsure Movies
Greetings,
I am by no means a movie buff, however here are a few of my top choices:
"The Visit"
Starring Hill Harper and Billy Dee Williams
The movie occurs in the visiting room of a jail cell where Hill Harper's charachter has been infected with AIDS (how is never communicated) and he is trying to mend fences with his family. The movie is powerful and well acted. I truly enjoyed this film.
"Like Water for Chocolate"
Foreign film that has all the passion and love that has been lacking in American film for a while. It is not as powerful as the book, yet it is still and awesome interpretation.
"Monsoon Wedding"
It is an Indian film about the marriage of a young girl and all the issues about the family that come along with the planning of the wedding. Very funny!!
"Fire"
Captures the life and struggles of Indian women living India and the frustrations of women living in a loveless marriage.
Peace and Love

love movies!
Love (or at least like) 'em:
Chasing Amy
12 Monkeys (own it)- still tryna figure it out
Mi Vida Loca
Chocolat (generally don't like love stories, but I could relate to the female lead)
Natural Born Killers
Fight Club
What Dreams May Come (thanks for the reminder RHOyal#1)
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (own it)
The Usual Suspects is one of my favorites! (own it)- don't think it's all that obscure, though. Same with these two:
Tombstone
The Untouchables
Utterly hated:
Magnolia!!!

I loved the movie and the book. It was just so good. I normally don't go for foreign films with subtitles (generally, because I like to do other things while I'm watching the movie) but I cought this movie on Bravo one day and fell in love. I have seen it about 15 times and read the book three times.
You're right the passion in this film is overflowing. The rose petal scene was the best in the film. It was refreshing to see a love story that didn't have the same overused storylines.
