Never read Pledged but was asked numerous times by my friends whether I was going to Georgia to be with my daughter on bid day. Base on their facebook pages, they were there with their daughters on bid day at UT, A&M and TCU. So no I am basing this on first hand knowledge. I don't really have an opinion on it. There was a big part of me that wanted to be with my daughter on that day (just in case). And if it a tradition at a school then that is great.

I was in a sorority at UGA and at the time our parents did not attend Bid Day. It was a time especially for pledges and sisters to bond. There were other days set aside for parents to spend their day with the sorority. I don't recall any sororities at uga having families there. Things could have changed since then.

University of Alabama has family and friends at Bid Day!
Most Fraternity Pledges and Actives as well, many holding roses to introduce them selves with! What a sight!

No harm, no foul. The spreadsheet is looking messy; I will keep working on it. This is fun for me! I'm learning all sorts of stuff today.
BTW here was my Zen of the Day meditation:
"Conflict is never what it appears to be. Beneath the surface of emotional reactions lies a chance to transform the most bewildering questions into the most enlightened answers."

Helping out your spreadsheet cause. I'm an alumni of Texas A&M University - Commerce and parents do not attend bid day.

Hmmm...according to that thread, parents DON'T go to bid day at UGA. That's from UGA sorority members.

I'm sure that's the case & I definitely wasn't speaking to UGA specifically because I have no first (or even second!) hand knowledge of UGA. I was replying to some comments made about Texas schools and Texas mothers.

Last year a friend of mine who is a UGA ADPi went bid day when her daughter pledged ZTA at UGA. I saw the photos she took. I don't know if that's the norm or not but I know for a fact at least one mom went to UGA last year for bid day.

I went to bid day at UGA several years ago, but my daughter was pledging my sorority and the house I lived in while I attended college. It is not the norm for parents to go. Parking on Milledge is at BEST a frickin' nightmare.
I heard from daughter this am. Quota is probably upwards of 60 - due to large number of PNMs. Good luck to everyone!

The whole street is a nightmare haha...it gets really crazy there and you have all the "frat stars" either driving by honking their horns 20 times a minute or a few hundred sitting in chairs right across the street from the houses. I always look forward to the youtube videos from Milledge on bid day.
I'll post as soon as I find out where my cousin and her best friend got bids!

University of Southern California has an established Greek system. Some chapters on the row have been active for 90 years or more. Bid Night begins at around 8 o'clock in the evening. Parents do not come for this event.
Parents and family do attend the Presents Ceremonies in October which are pictured on CC in another thread. Also, I think there are Mother-Daughter events and Father-Daughter events which take place later in the year.

Since I am the one that started the Mom @ Bid Day thread that is referenced here, I will share what my current experience has been in regard to this at UT Austin. Based on feedback from my daughter's RA, and the mom's of my daughter's roommate and suitemates, they ALL plan to attend bid as long as each young women makes it that far. Most said they would go either way....bad results...hit the movies...good results...celebration. Will any of us camp out? No. But be there...yes. As a matter of fact, I can' think of any mom I have spoken with who has a daughter going through recruitment that is not going to be there. Maybe it is just changing at UT. For me I yield to what my DAUGHTER wants. She wanted me close by for the good, the bad, or the ugly. Some moms and daughter just have that bond where it is the phone call that is made first. I don't think that makes me a helimom (although I have put my toe in the pond on occassion) as much as it makes me a compassionate mother who wants nothing but the best for her child. If she wants me there, and I can make it work...then so be it.

Back to the topic at hand...it's nearly 5PM ET. Has UGA indicated quota and whether all 17 sororities hit that number? I know Bid Day starts at 6. Where and when are the PNMs congregating?
I am here in Oswego, NY for work - keeping my fingers crossed for my sisters and the other women on South Milledge.
