He wants to try and move on from this experience..but I don't think that this is far from over.

What basis are these people claiming? He was born in Hawaii, one of the states. I don't see how they can claim any issue with that. McCain I can see people arguing because it was a little bit irregular.

I still think that everybody blew this out of proportion, which is a shame. For instance look at the mess happening in NJ, but every is focusing on this, while the other thing needs more of our focus I think. Corruption on a major level and international smuggling of body parts? These are cases when federal law was actually broken, but did Obama speak on these? If he did, I apologize but still.

You know, deepimpact, if you would contribute anything of substance as opposed to making statements that are dripping with attitude, you might discover that you don't have to defend yourself so often. Out of respect for E. Lynn Harris, I didn't want to respond to your comment to Munchkin in that thread. A stopped watch is correct twice a day. Think about that when, referring to TMZ, you say it's credible because it's been accurate on more than one occasion.

@ The officer, Obama, and Gates going out for beers. Or was that a Katie Couric joke? I wish it was. Remind me, again, of why Obama's annoying behind is involved with this?

@ The neighbor holding a neighborhood press conference. LOL. I swear we wouldn't know who she is, how she looks, or really give a darn if she would shut up. Her husband was standing with her holding her in support while she was crying. LOL. Add that to her hiring a lawyer and she's a complete idiot to me.

People are so ridiculous.

I feel bad for her. Her name was available on the police report along with her home address. She said people had been making threats and treating her poorly. I don't think she would have come forward if she didn't have legitimate claims.

However, I must admit if I was going to throw a press conference, I would put on some neutral makeup and look a little more presentable. She looked like she was just going out to water plants!

I didn't know the name and address were released. Her visibility makes more sense now.

Hmm, seems like this cop is an idiot:

Quote:
BOSTON (AFP) – Boston police said they had suspended an officer for a racist email likely to renew tensions over the recent arrest of black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates.
Quote:
The email describes Gates, who was arrested and briefly detained earlier this month at Harvard, near Boston, as a "banana-eating jungle monkey," according to a copy published by news site MyFoxBoston.com.
Quote:
"I am not a racist, but I am prejudice towards people who are stupid," reads the alleged diatribe -- containing frequent grammatical and spelling errors -- against Gates and local newspaper the Boston Globe.
Yes I'm sure you have black friends

I'm continually amazed by how eager people are to put their stupidity into email form.

ETA: I'm sorry, I found this story hilarious: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...l?hpid=topnews . I am, however, disappointed in our President's choice of beers. He really could have made a statement by choosing to drink something from the Rogue or Dogfish Head breweries.

I may be late on this but ...Has anyone heard the L A M E non-apology that this joker gave on Larry King? I just heard it and it is breath-taking in its mendacity. First of all, he never apologized to Prof. Gates. ...and, yeah right, he didn't know why he used the terms 'banana-eating jungle monkey', he never used them before, and those words had no racial overtones. Please move away from him, because he is surely going to be struck by lightning!

If I knew how to put the link in my message, I would. (I just may have to figure it out)

Okay ...I'm done.

I agree with you for the most part. I'm not really that happy about the beer thing, but I believe the cop was the one who suggested it. At that point I don't know if Obama cold have refused without looking like the bad guy.

As for the woman, I didn't know she hired an attorney. She's being a bit over the top in that regard. She really should just stop putting herself out there if this is so upsetting to her.

As for the cop who called Gates the racial slur, he needs to be made aware that Glenn Beck has now made it impossible for anyone to use the, "I have black friends/co-workers/staffers/neighbors" excuse. He's racist. The end. And if you are racist, and you know it, you should just man-up and stop trying to hide it when you get caught.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was Obama who suggested the Beer Summit.

I don't think she's responsible for putting herself "out there"; I think the media did that. While (if in her shoes) I wouldn't hold a press conference myself, I might very well consider hiring a lawyer. Not over the top in my opinion.

Holding a press conference?? Yeah, I would say she is responsible for putting herself out there.

And her attorney is really just...rude. The attorney, based on statements she made, appears to be irked that the men are having beer at the White House and her client isn't. She also had the nerve to say the 3 men overreacted while her client stayed "cool." GMAB But yes, I DO think it was over the top to hire an attorney. No one was going to sue her. Legally there was nothing that could be done to her because she was repoting what she thought she saw.

So, Deepimpact2, if you had made a phone call that resulted in an event that stirred up all kinds of controversy, and you were accused of being racist, accused of saying things you didn't say, and had personal threats made against you, you wouldn't want to find a way to convince people you didn't do anything wrong? For me, the press conference was unnecessary - she could have given a written statement, for instance. But she was already out there: her name and address were available to all of America via the police report. She didn't do that to herself. The press conference was a response to having been put out there by the media.

I agree.

The people who took the time to know who she is and/or threaten her are in the minority. The majority didn't know nor care who she is. Now we all know who she is and what she looks like.

There are dumb people on both sides of this incident. This incident should really have gone away by now. But, a talkative president and so forth wouldn't let that happen.
