ORANGEBURG, S.C. — The former co-host of BET's popular "106 & Park" show blasts what he calls the destructive messages of many of the show's most popular music videos.

A.J. Calloway co-hosted the show for five years with Free, whose given name is Marie Wright. Both left the show in July.

"I couldn't watch my own show with my niece on my lap," Calloway said this past week at South Carolina State University as part of the "Black Student Today" panel. The discussion focused on the impact of hip-hop music.

"Pick your five favorite songs," Calloway said. "Write down every word that's in your favorite songs. Read it back to yourself and think about what that has put into your head."

Calloway told the university audience he had vowed that after facing racism while growing up in New Jersey he would "never do anything against my race."

"I felt like I was hurting us by doing what I was doing," he said.

In her first appearance since her recent breast-implant surgery, Star Jones Reynolds brought little gifts for her cohosts on The View Monday morning: falsies.

"I don't need these," quipped Joy Behar as she stuffed them high under her jacket. "I'll use them as shoulder pads."

As for how Jones Reynolds, 44, now looks, the word svelte comes to mind. Last week, phoning into the show, she said: "I had a boob lift." Asked why she underwent the elective procedure, Jones Reynolds, explained that she needed the change following her recent 150-lbs. weight loss.

On Monday, Meredith Vieira said, "We call this show The View,' and, looking at Jones Reynolds, who was wearing a false front in preparation for the unveiling of her new chest, Vieira added: "And what a view."

Jones Reynolds joked that she was now a 44 triple D.

But, turning serious, Barbara Walters asked her costar to explain reports that there were serious aftereffects to her surgery. "When you talked to me I was fine," Jones Reynolds said of Walters's initial call to the hospital. "But I lost a little more blood than the doctors were comfortable with."

Although she was given transfusions, "Literally, by 8:30 the next morning I was having bacon and eggs," said Jones Reynolds. Of how she's doing now, she said: "I'm feeling really good."

And despite talk of there being a feud between Behar and Jones Reynolds, there was no evidence of any friction between them.

Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons announced on March 31 they'd separated after seven years of marriage. But saving their union is "a possibility," Russell Simmons tells the New York Daily News.

"We're best friends," says the Phat Farm and Def Jam Records founder. "We're still going to have our media interests and our fashion interests. I am producing her reality show (VH1's The Kimora Lee Simmons Show), and we're raising our children together. From what the public sees, there's absolutely no change."

On Monday, Simmons says, he, Kimora and their daughters Ming, 6, and Aoki, 3, "woke up, the four of us, in the same bed – which is pretty normal for us."

He also confirms he's been spending time with Denise Vasi, 23, a model from the Dominican Republic, and denied reports of infidelity, saying he'd been honest with Kimora about Vasi.

He also tells the Daily News he'd be fine if his wife found a new boyfriend, under two conditions: "One, he'd better be sweet to Kimora. Two, he'd better love my children."

Russell, 48, and Kimora, 30, married in 1998. Kimora, a former model, oversees the hugely successful women's clothing line Baby Phat (a Phat Farm spin-off) and is author of the recently published book Fabulosity.

In his statement Friday, Simmons said, "Kimora and I will remain committed parents and caring friends with great love and admiration for each other. We will also continue to work side by side on a daily basis as partners in all of our businesses."

The statement also said the couple have been separated "for some time," but have continued living under the same roof.

Homeland Agent Arrested in Seduction Case


MIAMI - The deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was arrested Tuesday for using the Internet to seduce what he thought was a teenage girl, authorities said.

Brian J. Doyle, 55, was arrested at his residence in Maryland on charges of use of a computer to seduce a child and transmission of harmful material to a minor. The charges were issued out of Polk County, Fla.

Doyle, of Silver Spring, Md., had a sexually explicit conversation with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl whose profile he saw on the Internet on March 14, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The girl was an undercover Polk County Sheriff's Computer Crimes detective, the sheriff's office said.

Doyle sent the girl pornographic movie clips and had sexually explicit conversations via the Internet, the statement said.

During other online conversations, Doyle revealed his name, that he worked for the Homeland Security Department and offered his office and government issued cell phone numbers, the sheriff's office said.

Doyle also sent photos of himself to the girl, but authorities said they were not sexually explicit.

On several occasions, Doyle instructed her to perform a sexual act while thinking of him and described explicit activities he wanted to have with her, investigators said.

Doyle later had a telephone conversation with an undercover deputy posing as the teenager and encouraged her to purchase a web camera to send graphic images of herself to him, the sheriff's office said.

He was booked into Maryland's Montgomery County jail where he was waiting to be extradited to Florida, the sheriff's office said.

There was no immediate response to messages left on Doyle's government-issued cell phone and his e-mail, and he could not be reached by phone at the jail for comment.

Homeland Security press secretary Russ Knocke in Washington said he could not comment on the details of the investigation. "We take these allegations very seriously, and we will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation," Knocke said.

Doyle, who is the fourth-ranking official in the department's public affairs office, was expected to be placed on administrative leave Wednesday morning.

According to sources close to the pair, the two remained in close contact after the end of their popular series Flavor Of Love and have since began a romantic relationship. The new reality series will focus on the couple's day to day life as they live together in a quiet suburban town. The series is scheduled to begin filming this summer.

Naomi strikes again! Supermodel Naomi Campbell faces up to seven years in jail for attacking another housekeeper. The 35-year old model was arrested last week and charged with second degree assault after she beat her housekeeper in the head with a phone. The 41-year old housekeeper had to get four stitches in the head. This is not the first time Naomi has beat the help. She has a history of attacking her workers. Her cruelty toward her foreign help is legendary. Naomi claims she’s innocent, and she reportedly told her staff to lie about what happened. She told them to tell the cops the maid tripped. She’s short and stocky, and Naomi is tall and lean. When Naomi couldn’t find her jeans, she flew into a rage and went after the housekeeper. Bang! Bang! Upside the housekeeper’s head! Is Singer Cherelle Whitney Houston’s get high partner? According to published reports, Cherelle has been fingered as Whitney’s right hand gal. Back in the 80’s, Cherelle had a slew of hits and duets with Alexander O’Neal (Saturday Love, Never Knew Love Like This and Everything I Miss At Home). Last week, Bobby’s sister Tina Brown told all about Whitney’s drug use and destruction. Tina allegedly got paid $200 thousand for her story. She used to get high with Whitney, so she knew all the dirt. She was able to get pictures of Whitney’s drug dens. Did Bobby put his sister up to this? Were they in cahoots to get the money? With Whitney’s money gone, she can no longer support his family, and they are desperate for cash. Bobby’s children, Bobby Jr., and La Princia, cut off Whitney a while ago because they grew tired of all the drama. As for Bobbi Kristina, she is staying with Whitney’s brother Gary.

P. Diddy is suing Proactive. He used to star in their infomercials, but now he’s claims his bumps have come back. He’s suing them for $1.5 million.

At the movies, it’s Phat Girlz starring Mo’nique, and Antonio Banderas and Alfre Woodard head up the cast for the dance drama Take The Lead.

Former BET 106 & Park Host AJ Calloway is blasting the network for the many videos they show. Calloway, who is now an entertainment correspondent for Extra TV, says he’s glad he’s gone from the network. He says he’s embarrassed by what he sees on the channel and the negative influence the videos have on today’s generation.

Our condolences go out to the family of former Futures’ Singer Harry McGilberry, who passed away earlier this week. As a member of The Futures, McGilberry sang back up for Melba Moore, Teddy Pendergrass, Jerry Butler, Lou Rawls, Billy Paul and McFadden & Whitehead. Plus, the group got to release their own albums in the 70’s. Along with his bass vocals being heard on the Sound of Philly classics, Love is Here and (Part Time) Party Time Man, McGilberry later became a member of The Temptations. He joined The Temps in 1996, and he was featured on the 1998 album Phoenix Rising and the hits Stay and This Is My Promise.
Paula Abdul stays! Despite the wacky behavior, odd clothing and tears, Abdul will remain on American Idol. Her new three year deal is worth between $5 and $8 million. Now that Paula and Simon have gotten raises, will Randy Jackson be next?

Thanks to all of those who responded to my question about a replacement for Star Jones. The response was incredible. A lot of people agreed with me and said Sheryl Lee Ralph. Many others emailed their suggestions and said they would like to see Vanessa Williams, Queen Latifah, Sherri Shepherd, Rolonda Watts or Soledad O’Brien, to name a few. A lot of people felt that Joy Behar should be replaced because she is always making snide remarks to Star. Star will be on The View for a while. It appears Meredith Vieria will be leaving the show to host The Today Show on NBC. Katie Couric is leaving The Today Show to anchor the evening news on CBS. Meredith is top choice to replace Katie. With Meredith leaving, The View cannot afford to lose Star. Too much change is unsettling on TV, and it would totally change the chemistry of the show with two new people. Star dodged a bullet this time. She will stay as Meredith leaves.

Get ready for more Flavor of Love with Flavor Flav on VH1. During last week’s reunion show, After The Lovin’, Flav announced that he and Hoopz would just be friends, no romance. Hoopz won over New York to be the woman who would wear the clock, the gold teeth and have Flavor Flav’s heart. Flav should have picked New York. Despite her outlandish behavior, she would have stuck by Flav. Hoopz wants to be a movie star, and she used Flav for her own career. She had no intention of getting down with him and those teeth. Now Flav is going to have to do it all over again for a new season of Flavor of Love. Let’s hope they bring New York back. She was hysterical.
