This was mentioned on the AEPhi board but not here - in the Spring AEPhi will be recolonizing at Miami University in Ohio and UConn and we will be starting a new group at Virginia Commonwealth. The UConn expansion is based on a local group which wanted to affiliate with AEPhi. I don't know the exact stories with the other two campuses.

Does a local sorority have to go through the same steps as an interest group in order to affiliate with a national?

Not knowing for sure how Sororities work, I would imagine so. But, it would help if there is a strong group looking to affiliate as my local did with LXA!
Strength in numbers can always help to be looked at.

Sigma Chi and Rhode Island
After a near nine-year absence, Sigma Chi is returning to the University of Rhode Island. A month-long, headquarters-driven New Chapter Initiative will begin in February 2007. When the new colony is formed in March, Delta Sigma will be 12 months away from regaining its charter.

DPhiE to colonize at University of New Haven (CT)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press Release
Delta Phi Epsilon Announces Colonization at University of New Haven
Colonization Slated for January 2007
St. Louis, MO January 9, 2007
Delta Phi Epsilon is pleased to announce that the sorority has been invited to colonize at University of New Haven. Denise Curran, Director of Expansion, and Kathy Deppe, Alumnae & Chapter Development Director, visited the university in early December to meet with women of the interest group, the Greek Advisor, and local DPhiE alumnae.
Founded in 1920, UNH is a private, comprehensive university located ten minutes from downtown New Haven, Connecticut. The present enrollment is 2,300 undergraduates, of which 49% are female. Approximately 85% of the full-time undergraduate students live on campus. Enrollment of full-time undergraduate students has steadily increased over the past five years and continues to grow. The University states that it is in a transition phase, moving from being a traditionally commuter campus to a residential campus, and is in the process of building both a new student recreation center and a new academic building.
There are currently no NPC groups at the University of New Haven; however, there is one chartered NPHC chapter, one interested NPHC group, one NIC chapter, and five local sororities and fraternities on campus. Colonization will begin in January 2007 and more information regarding the process is forthcoming. For more information on the University of New Haven, please visit the university's website at www.newhaven.edu.

U of New Haven
Phi Sigma Sigma is also colonizing but since nothing appears on their website yet, we did not mention them in the press release. A panhellenic will be formed once both groups charter.

Is y'all's (Delta Phi Epsilon) interest group one of the local sororities? And would you happen to know if Phi Sigma Sigma's colonization is with an interest group, one of the locals, or - for lack of a better phrase - from the ground up?

Yes, neither of the groups (DPhiE or PSS) are local absorptions. The locals are all still there. The PSS group started with an initiated PSS sister who trasnferred and the DPhiE group was started by three student leaders who were unaffiliated. I believe PSS colonized in December but since they are on break and PSS has nothing on their website, I have no further info at the moment.

Our New Haven colony is scheduled for installation in April. Their numbers are on track and they have an excellent colonization team in place.
Exciting times all around for Phi Sig since all 4 of our colonies will be installed this spring!

Phi Sigma Kappa recently established a colony at Valdosta State in Georgia. The articles mentions that they had established another colony. Does anyone know where this occured?
