Thumbs up

Geeky Penguin, Soror Ladygreek, thank you both for passing on a well-written article. Reading about Soror Reatha Clark King was very inspiring. God bless her. @ 35 cents an hour.

Co-sign with CT4. Those articles were very well-written and showed both Delta and Kappa in a positive light!

DST to observe Founder's Day

Pardon me for jumping in!

This was a great article in my local paper. It's too long to post.

The Newnan Times-Herald 2/1/06

The Lagrange Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., a public service sorority, will observe Founder's Day Saturday, Feb.. 11 at 3.p.m.. The program will be held at First Baptist Church, 204 Fannin St., in LaGrange (GA). The featured speaker will be the 22nd National President Gwendolyn E. Boyd.

The public is invited to attend.......

From 2000-2004 Gwendolyn Boyd served as tne 22nd National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. During her tenure, she was known as the "Technology President" as she ushered the sorority through a paradigm shift in moving to online registration for conferences and conventions and establishing technology in all facets of sorority activities and completing the $6.5 million renovation of the national headquarters that was paid in full (wow!!)

It was under her leadership that the Sorority received a $1.6 million grant from the National Science Foundation for Project SEE (Science in Everyday Experiences) to promote math and science for middle school African American girls.

((Very nice picture of her in a red jacket with white blouse )

I just watched this video clip and I am in tears right now. This is a true example of sisterhood!

This story kinda hit home for me since I had my daughter while I was in college and I really had to work hard my last two years of school. Working full time going to school full time to make sure I would graduate.

Soror Ralph to be on ER--Black Voices

Working Girl

Sheryl Lee Ralph will join the cast of NBC’s long running drama series, ‘ER,’ for a two-episode arc that starts April 6. The newlywed, and original ‘Dreamgirls’ star will play opposite Ernie Hudson in a suspenseful storyline directed by long time ‘ER’ veteran Laura Innes. “I just wrapped on the first episode,” Ralph told Black Voices. “We are shooting next in Chicago and LA in mid-March. It’s a great experience that works like clock work.” Ralph most recently played a transsexual in the Showtime Network series ‘Barbershop.’

I love stories like this

90-year-old refuses to slow down

No one could accuse Bertha Carroll of acting her age.

Not if their idea of age-appropriate behavior for a 90-year-old is sitting in a rocking chair all day. Carroll is too busy for that.

Two months after her 90th birthday, she had total knee replacement surgery. She wanted to be able to get around faster. She was so eager to get back on her feet, the nurses at the rehabilitation center called her "Speedy."

Read the rest here.

She does NOT look 90. I would say mid 70s. She's up the road in Wilson County.

I knew you would enjoy that part. As you can see, she also used to live in Brooklyn.
