Well I think people have traditionally kept their organizations to themselves because of people like SigmaChiGuy, who would probably be happy to call our national organizations and complain. Seeing as we emphasize things like personal responsibility, which that person abhores, he'd love to sabatoge I'm sure. Also, in regards to SigmaChiGuy, for someone who hates the south, he's really obsessed with us. He makes cute little jokes about southern farming and incest, but all the while recognizing that we (those on here from southern schools) will probably go on to much better careers than he. Now regarding us being close minded, its simply bullsh*t. Unfortunately, our current society has told us that not being diverse, not hanging out with people who are opposite from us, is damaging to development. However, the "development" you speak of is not intellectual, it is simply a term used to describe the acceptance of all social culture. If believing homosexuality is wrong and thinking english should be spoken in America is being "undeveloped," then by all means I am. However, you would find that in spite of our "conceit" (which is in fact, based on reality), and our lack of development, southern fraternity men are very well educated. You also act as though the South doesnt contain the variety of jobs and experiences other parts of the country do (I think somebody mentioned being "cotton growers" and "peanut farmers"). Lets consider reality. Houston and Dallas are obviously in the South, and I'm sure McCallan could fill you in on that. Atlanta is home to several fortune 500 companies (Home Depot, Coke, Delta, UPS, etc), mega law firms, the world's busiest airport, hell we had the olympics in 96. Charlotte is the fastest growing banking center in the United States, home to the fastest rising bank, Wachovia. Charlotte also is home to great, international law firms and is surrounded by nearby world-class medical research. These are just the highlights, there are obviously other cities of note such as Memphis (FedEx home), Birmingham (banking and accounting) and Greenville (absolutely one of the hottest job markets for young professionals). Thus, even if we choose to be "undeveloped," and not leave the South, theres more to do around here than simply huntin or working on the farm...

Actually, according to the FAA, Hartsfield had more arrivals/departures last year, and currently is leading O'Hare in this category again this year.

FYI, most ppl who live in NC (and many in SC as well) don't really consider Charlotte to be "Southern" as you are defining it in this thread.

You're mixing your messages and your causes and making claims that can't be backed up with facts.

On just one of the topics, the Southern Cities you mention are great ones. I've been to all of them for business. Which one of them, in your opinion, would replace New York in terms of financial importance to our country?

I have no brief for or against any of the cities you've mentioned -- or most other cities in the South. What is absolutely BS is that everything (in any area of living) revolves around ANY single area of the country.

As I've said before, that goes for Greek Life as well. You claim facts. Let's see them.

You claim that Southern Fraternity members will have better jobs and make more money than members from anywhere else. Prove it. You claim the Southern chapters are better. Using what criteria?

"Everybody knows it" doesn't cut it here.

It's just not so.

One piece of of anything does not often make it great. It's the sum of it's parts.

What do you mean "Where is Lane"? Lane is right here. And, I am not a GDI nor a lady. "Sig" stands for Sigma Chi. It's our nickname. I went to school at Arkansas State for undergrad and University of Memphis for grad school. Displaying discretion and anonymity is one thing. Hiding behind it is another.

Go back and read my post. I did not, nor would not, use the term "frat". I used the term "fratty" that so many new members of GC seem to prefer when refering to themselves.

I'll admit it, the world doesn't revolve around the south, large cities up north and west are vital to this countries economy. However, I don't consider any of those cities "great", or any city for that matter. It's just too crowded and too polluted for me. I like small, rural towns. Which is why I'll probably never the Georgia, much less the Southeast. I have nothing against folks who live or want to live in the city, that's what they prefer. I just prefer my house, sitting on a good 100-150 acres, and a few good dogs to run every now and again, and a good ol' southern girl to sit and pass the evening by with.

About the money issue...
My brother is a Phi Gam at Georgia. Georgia's Phi Gam is decent old row, but not all that good. I was looking through his issue of the Phi Gamma Delta and the number one alumn donater to the national fraternity was the Georgia chapter, which donated 250 some thousand dollars. If I'm not mistaken, no chapter was closer than a hundred thousand dollars and the majority of the top five was rounded out by southern chapters.
