If you think it's ugly now just wait till the grand jury comes back without enough evidence to charge Officer Wilson. An officer friend of mine In that area (not Furgeson but STL) was notified by upper command to be extra vigilant and watch for "revenge" attacks on and off duty when the GJ comes back with their decision.

It was a good day yesterday. (Except for the Cardinals losing.) Marches in downtown St. Louis were peaceful. Protests at the game were small and peaceful. Most fans behaved themselves. Thank God.

And that's why they extended the grand jury term to January. That result (whatever it is, and I think they're probably going to return "no true bill") is going to be announced on the coldest, snowiest/rainiest/sleety crap day in January that they can find. Nobody wants to be outside in St. Louis in January and by the time the weather is good enough to protest outside again, emotions will have cooled a little.

I feel like this issue has moved past the actual shooting, so I'm not sure how relevant the 'who dun it' aspect of this case is anymore, but this Washington Post story casts significant doubt on the "hands up, don't shoot" version of what transpired:
Quote:
But more than a half-dozen unnamed black witnesses have provided testimony to a St. Louis County grand jury that largely supports Wilson’s account of events of Aug. 9, according to several people familiar with the investigation who spoke with The Washington Post.
Some of the physical evidence — including blood spatter analysis, shell casings and ballistics tests — also supports Wilson’s account of the shooting, The Post’s sources said, which casts Brown as an aggressor who threatened the officer’s life. The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are prohibited from publicly discussing the case.
The grand jury is expected to complete its deliberations next month over whether Wilson broke the law in confronting Brown, and the pending decision appears to be prompting the unofficial release of information about the case and what the jurors have been told.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch late Tuesday night published Brown’s official county autopsy report, an analysis of which also suggests that the 18-year-old may not have had his hands raised when he was fatally shot, as has been the contention of protesters who have demanded Wilson’s arrest.

From news reports on MSNBC and other outlets, the city is prepping for the worse that could happen if Wilson is not indicted; but I did read on www.comcast.net yesterday that the Grand Jury did also hear testimony from the coroner retained by Mr. Brown's parents for their own autopsy results.
IMO: If no indictment is issued, then I hope that all sides keep the peace but after the occurrences over the last several months (which have ebbed down somewhat) and Mr. Brown's parents spoke at the U.N., the whole world is watching Ferguson, MO.

If you've been following the news lately, the governor of MO has placed that state under a State of Emergency and the National Guard is on standby.
I'm seeing a few tweets that the GJ decision may be tonight but who knows right now......I'm just praying for peace and no one is hurt, injured or even worse.

It's terrible how long it's taking. It's built up so much anticipation and one side will obviously not be happy with the Grand Jury's decision. The longer the wait the bigger the reaction will be.

You know the part in a Western, right before the shoot out starts? When all the townspeople are looking out the windows? It's like that.
1. The governor has declared a state of emergency so that he can activate the National Guard. They have booked rooms in hotels in downtown St. Louis.
2. The ACLU has brought in 100-150 volunteer attorneys.
3. The activist groups have been planning and practicing for the announcement. They have issued lists of sites in St. Louis that will be targets for protests.
4 . Illinois State Police and Missouri State Police have created plans to handle the protests.
5. Local churches are being set up as shelters and sanctuaries.
6. St. Louis University has issued guidelines for students who plan on participating in the protests.
7. Sales at local gun shops have tripled in the last month or so.
I sincerely hope this stays peaceful, but I doubt it. It's going to be a shitstorm.

Almost every disenfranchised group throughout history that has rioted has done so in their own environment. Nothing new there.
It takes power in the form of audacity and fearlessness to ruin others' environments.
I don't want any more rioting. Been there, done that. I want people to take that anger and energy into lasting and legal social changes. I consider it silly to plan and look forward to a riot.
As for the officer resigning, I think that's wise. He will never be able to overcome this even if this Black man died in a legal yet unfortunate manner. This officer and fellow officers will struggle even more from this point on. Resigning can reduce some of that struggle.
