Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles agreed on a six-year contract on Monday that again makes the Pro Bowl quarterback one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

A league source told ESPN's Andrew Brandt the deal is worth $100 million and a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that it contains roughly $40 million guaranteed.

Some faction, as is usually the case w/ most things celeb, will never let it go.

Since I thought his punishment was not in proportion to his crime (given his notoriety, etc..), I'm glad to see it start to come back together for him .... at least until I have to go against him in fantasy football.

Please tell me that you're joking cuz I must have missed that memo. Just because Vick was given a job in no way means he's America's sweetheart or that the general public has forgiven him. I agree with the bolded. I'd have liked to see him mauled by a pack of rabid lions myself. But alas, karma is a bitch and I have a feeling the next time we see this guy in the news it'll be how he once again fucked up or pissed away his second chance in life.

He's talking about a subculture.

When you go around the world not everyone gives a darn about animals. These "animal rights" organizations are a primarily "white diaspora" effort, not because there aren't cultures where animals are a big concern but because such concern often manifests itself differently.

As for Vick being mauled by lions, in my opinion humans trump animals all day and everyday. Animal cruelty (what that means depends on the culture and the context) lessons can be learned without putting humans and animals on the same level. However, there are societies and cultures around the world where animals and humans are on the same level or animals trump humans. Thus, the social construction of all of this.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I hope your feeling is wrong. This smacks of naivete, but I want to believe that he has learned a lesson or two. (And I don't mean a lesson in 'don't get caught.') I wouldn't say I've forgiven him, but since he's served his time, I don't feel comfortable saying he should never play football again.

I don't think the the guy needs the public's "forgiveness". He served his time. To see whether dog fighting is part of his culture, you only need to go back to where he grew up and look for signs. This is learned behavior. Of course it isn't wide spread culture, but neither is cock fighting. Drive through Louisiana and there are little huts in some yards for cocks specifically for that purpose. Is it less disgusting because it's legal or because they are birds? Meh. I hope he learned a lesson. I'm glad he's using his star power for a good cause to talk to people about the evils of dog fighting. if this episode didn't change what he feels in his heart...maybe it will at least change his actions.

Your last sentence is particularly instructive. As was noted earlier, dogfighting, right or wrong, was part of his subculture. His newfound life as a animal-rights "superhero" is probably more about the public posturing necessary to get back to the millions his talent has now helped him
re-establish, than any newfould sincerety about dogs.

I've seen people get less prison time for taking humans off the planet, so, heinousness of dogfighting aside, Vick went down as severely as he did because of his celebrity.

The public mea culpas, who deserves an "apology" and who can give "forgiveness" to MV are always sorts of a grey areas for me.
....unless MV killed YOUR dog, who really deserve an apology?
