Variations

I've also noticed different strolls at different schools even within the same region. They have also been done to different songs. I've also noticed chants being slightly different by changes in certain words. Most things are similar with small differences. I think it's interesting going to different schools and viewing how certain chapters do things. Especially around homecoming time.

Ladygreek, it truly is. This thread has been in existence for four years and she is THE ONLY non-greek to chime in with multiple dissertations on what WE, as Greeks, do. And, in the process, found time to disrespect our National President. But, that's the nature of the beast these days...

Soror SKEEphistAKAte summed it up best: PRESSED.

Anyway, it is truly interesting to see my Sorors stroll off Scarred. When the song came on, they almost started a stampede to get it going!

The closest I've been to strolling this year was when everyone was doing the Bunny Hop at AKApollo. I know a few and know an AKA/APA unity stroll, but I don't ever go anywhere that strolling is going on. Maybe I'll pick up a few at the GreekFest. I might have to get some lessons from CountryGurl!

Sands

It seems strange to me to hear that some schools refer to anyone that pledged the same semester as them as their sands, regardless of the organization. When I pledged, the only people that we called our sands were our line sisters that actually crossed the sands with us. Of course that was in 1987, I realize that most organizations probably no longer physically cross burning sands, nor should they (we shouldn't have been doing it either). I just thought that the term sands was reserved for the most intimate of relationships, at least that is how it was in my day.

Then you pledged in the midwest. A friend of mine pledged in Illinois and they referred to each other as ships or shippies also. I never understood the relation of ships to the greek lines.

On the west coast we also use Sands for our linesisters and those who crossed the same year as our paralle sands or DiSTance Sands. I've also heard of ships and shippies and back and front (some VA sorors).

A good question would be, "how much greek lingo currently in use, was originated by the Bruhs?

I have an answer, but the question was to the general body. Being that you are '87, I'm sure that you have a good idea
