What Every 1L Should Know Before Starting Law School

I thought this would be a fun little thread to start for our resident legal eagles and law students....

What do you know now that you wish you had known as a 1L? I'll get the ball rolling and jump in with a few more things later.....

I wish I would have known that you don't have to brief every case your professor assigns! The minor details of the cases are not going to be on your finals...don't kill yourself mapping out all of them!

I wish I had understood how important 1st year grades are to opening mroe doors in terms of jobs. i know people who ended up w/ the same GPA I did, but b/c they waited until their 3rd year to get bad grades [ in IP, and he went to an IP firm ]
they still got signing bonuses, and went to big firms.
