My mama, a devout Catholic who usually finds most things sacreligious...even she thought it was a great piece.

She even went to say that she thought they would have had a prettier Jesus Christ.

Agreed. It's well done and tasteful, too.

Well, since Italy is very VERY Catholic, and hopefully I'm not wrong saying this but their government is also, I don't think it's wrong for them to ban it. I just don't agree that this is tasteful. The painting represents one of Jesus' last moments, so yeah I can see why Catholics would think it's wrong. I'm not even religious and I think it's wrong. I'm sure if it was Martin Luther King, Jr. or some other big historic person, people would be having a fit.

If the Last Supper had been created by Jesus, that would be one thing.

Instead, it's an artist's rendering of a supposed event that happened like 2000 years ago whose creation would've been nearly 1500 years after the event.

That's a slippery slope to justify banning a painting. Other than it's obvious resemplance to Da Vinci's work, there is not catholic or christian about the picture.

Oh, just cover your virgin eyes or look away....this wouldn't be newsworthy if they didn't make such a fuss.

Leave it up. If it offends you, don't buy their clothing. Personally, I wouldn't - but that's my perogative.

In many parts of Europe, full frontal nudity isn't just accepted, it's the norm.

Oh man no kidding. When I went to Sicily I was surprised. I had heard about it but I didn't know it was like that. I thought it was interesting, especially since so many Italian parents in the U.S. are still living in the old Italian ways. Girls cover up, no revealing clothing, don't go out parading to bars/clubs/with boys. Over there people dress like they're goin to a club every day. Funny how we're so different.

It's an imitation of a painting, ace - which wasn't done by God (unless you're way into Leonardo).

The MLK thing is blatant prejudism.

There was also a representation of the Last Supper in the movie version of M*A*S*H.

Link

So this is really nothing new - kind of derivative of whoever made the poster actually. There have been lots of other "recreations" of DaVinci's Last Supper.

Just kidding. I don't think it should be banned either.
If we could have hot men like that at our meetings I think they would be much more fun.

It took me a while looking at it to figure out what was "offensive" about it.
Yeah, I'm slow, but I'm old.

I played Dr. King in a play once.

Dali also did his own version of the last super.

Italia=gov't changes entirely every four years or so, so not a big deal. Really, at all.

l'Republique [i guess thats right. I can't spell in english or german, my spelling in French is right out] well, seriously its not my government so I won't say anything, although I believe their Head of State and their Head of Government are two different people.

It should be banned because it promotes eating disorders and negative self-images.

-- that was the line of reasoning these countries used, I'm sure.
