I am a NIB at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. One of our events is to visit the grave of Jack E. Mason, the father of our ritual. He is buried in Woodland Cemetery which is basically on the Upenn campus. Jack mason is buried under a family head stone that includes his mother, father and sister. I do not have a picture but if anyone does want directiosn to the grave i can give them. Both our chapter and Drexels visit the site. The upenn chapter didnt even know about it until we informed them a few years ago

Brother Patrick,
In about 15 minutes the C&C magazine will be issued with an article I wrote about Jack Mason. In the article I mention his burial site. I plan on visiting Woodland Cemetary in July to pay my respects. I would appreciate any specific instructions you can give me to find his grave. I would also like to visit our Zeta Chapter Houses in the Philadelphia area.
I want to see his grave properly memorialized by our Fraternity. Down the road, I hope that my Lambda Chi Brothers will help to see that this is done in his memory.
Yours in ZAX,
Mike Raymond,

here is a map of woodlands cemetery
http://www.uchs.net/Woodlands/woodlandscemetery.html
as i recall jack e masons grave is located on a plot between 59 and 56 on that map. If not there then in that general vicinity. there is no special markings for his grave in relation to LXA. it is a family tombstone that includes his father, mother, sister and brother if i am not mistaken. if you have difficulty finding the location you can use the cemetery directory when you get there.
as for visiting our the chapter houses drexel and penn both have very impressive ones. At St. Joes we are not allowed to have them but we still keep a general frat house on 63rd and city line avenue. St. joes and the house are technically in philly but located pretty far from downtown. whenever you do visit i can put u in contact with the brothers that live in the house, which you are always welcome to stay in. hope i was helpfull.

Patrick

Brother Tom,
Here are some details:
He died on December 29, 1968 at Truesdale Hospital in Fall River, Ma.
Funeral was January 1, 1969. Services conducted by Rev. Allen Webster Joslin, rector of Christ Episcopal Chuch, Swansea, Ma.
This is the best information that I have right now.
Thanks, Tom....

+ I am happy to report that Warren A. Cole's burial site has been found. He was buried on January 1, 1969 in Horton Land, Rehoboth, Mass. According to an old C&C, Horton Land was the birthplace of his mother and was ancestral property going back many generations.
Where did you come up with the 'Horton Land' reference? I cannot find it on any maps, nor is there any mention of it that I can find on the 'net. Local historical societies are coming up blank.

Given that I can find no information on "Horton Land" I have ordered an abstract of Warren Cole's death certificate. If Massachusetts is anything like California, the place of interment should be listed.
I have also found a listing of all known cemeteries in Bristol County, MA. That should prove very helpful.

John, I have been in contact with Christ Church and with the info that Mike R sent Me, I just emailed the information.
Hopefully I will get something back as they did get back to me very quick.
Keep Your Lap Top Handy.
The Lady I contacted is a Karen Remaine.
As soon as I get anything back, I will email you.
I hope she will be as anxious as many of us as it is a mystery. Everyone loves a mystery.
I did explain why We are looking and what We want to do with the info.
ZAX,

Swansea Community Group on Yahoo
I joined the Swansea community group on Yahoo. I have received several replies, each offering some information - and some giving me back the postings that we have here! But some folks are genuienly trying to be helpful.
Below is a transcript of a recent exchange:
<S.Clark wrote> There are 6 on Hortonville Road - Mount Hope, Martin, Mason-Horton, Baker, Reed-Mason and the Col. Peleg Slade
(coincidentally, I have been working on getting this stuff online but I haven’t had much time)
On 6/2/06 3:49 PM, "Scott Ventura" <msventura2002@yahoo.com> wrote:
There are, I believe a couple of small cemeteries on HORTONville road. Maybe this is what you are looking for.
John Gezelius <fullertonpi@msn.com> wrote:
I thought I should make a brief post regarding why I am chasing the ghost of Warren Cole.
Warren Cole was a founder of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, on of the large national fraternities that you sometimes read about. From time to time we run articles on fraternity history in our magazine. We would like to run a piece on Cole and would like to include a photo of his headstone or marker.
The best information that we have is that he died on December 29, 1968 at Truesdale Hospital in Fall River, Ma. Funeral was January 1, 1969. Services conducted by Rev. Allen Webster Joslin, rector of Christ Episcopal Chuch, Swansea, Ma. Interment was at "Horton Land".
We cannot find this place called Horton Land. I wonder if it might be the name of a large family plot someplace or perhaps the name of a farm or other land holding.
Suggestions and ideas are solicited.
Many Thanks

Cole's draft card
I have even found copies of his selective service records from both WW1 & WW2.
I am hoping that the abstract of the death certificate will include internment data.
BTW, I will have my laptop, equipped with a GPS system, with me and will have a 4WD SUV from Hertz.

Hope I hear back soon, or Your detective work will lead to the proper site!
Maybe We are narrowing it down and may be "findable" (! )

Waren A. Cole Found-almost.
Hi Mr. Earp,
I sent you an e-mail yesterday morning that Warren Cole is buried in "S. Wheeler Horton Cemetery" in Rehoboth, MA. It's a neighboring town to Swansea.
Karen
This should help the G C LXA Detectives.
There should be a Plot Map somewhere with the cemetary or Church if one is there. I think the proper name is the sexton.
Good luck and may the force be with You.

This appears to be an itty-bitty cemetery, perhaps a family type someplace in rehoboth. Ihave a call in to the local reference librarian.
If that fails, I will get a couple of topo maps from the local REI store and attempt to locate as many old cemeteries as possible for the excursion this Sunday and Monday.
Passengers eagerly solicited.

Still searching
Although I have the name of the 'cemetery' I am still coming up short on a location. My fear is that this is a small family plot, perhaps on a farm or in the alternative, that the place has changed names.
I dropped Ms. Remine a quick note thanking her for her halp and asking if she knew where the cemetery / plot was.
Whether she does or she doesn't, I'll send some flowers to her to thank her for her help.
