Oh yeah, I forgot, my highschool was the ***Buccaneers***. The mascot's name was ***Bucky*** the pirate. Bucky used to be so cute, but my senior year (last year), we got a new costume, and now he's extremely sinister looking LOL. The girls teams were the Lady Bucs, but when I first went there I thought they were saying on the intercom Lady BUGS---LOL!
The mascot when I was in junior high was the ***Seals***. Everyone made that <arh, arh> noise and clapped their arms together at the games. LOL! (oh yeah, the seals are scary!)
WVU (where everyone else in my family went) is the ***Mountaineers***. This guy is wearing an all brown leather outfit with fringe, a coonskin cap, and totes a rifle loaded with blanks. Whenever the make a touchdown (which is rare), he shoots the blanks in the air.
HAHA! I also found this mascot on googlesearch called **Goldie the Goldeye**. It's for some kind of baseball team. It's this big weird yellow thing with a baseball hat and uniform, and it has this long funky gold nose. It's ears are baseballs. How screwy! LOL!

I go to an engineering school which started out as a mining college so our "mascot" is the Oredigger (that makes for an interesting chant--Diggers--which never sounds like what we're really saying)and it is a cartoonish man holding a pick fork and dressed like he's from the 1800's and our animal "mascot" is a donkey so at all of the football games we have a real donkey named Blaster there for people to pet and they run it across the field like they do the buffalo at CU...corney huh?

Hi EES125! My husband is class of 1987. He is no longer on active duty; he just does the reserves. When he was in, he was a surface nuke on a guided missle cruiser (your bf will know exactly what that is, if you don't! lol) I LOVED military life and I really, really miss it. I just wish it had paid more! When did your bf graduate? what does he do? are you in the Annapolis area? Feel free to e mail me at PittPnthr89@aol.com!

Well my HS's mascot is nothing interesting. We're the Raiders. And as Wine&Blue has already stated the University of Alabama is the Crimson Tide. The name came about in a game a long time ago between UA and our arch nemesis Auburn University. It was all rainy and stuff on game day and very muddy. We won and the announcer said we were like a crimson tide rolling over Auburn's Tigers/Eagles. Also, University of Tennessee's mascot is the........VOLUNTEERS!! How scary!!!
And it always ends up being shortened to the "Vols." Honestly, I have no idea what exactly the Volunteers are supposed to represent

My mascot is pretty bad. We are the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels. You might ask "What is a petrel?" It's an extinct bird that they use to keep on ships, because they were really oily. When it rained, they would light it on fire and send it out to look for land. That's why they are extinct. I think we are also on David Letterman's list of bad mascots. ;-)

Well, we Sooners have the Schooner. It's basically a covered wagon that the pioneering folks used to travel out west way back when.

just to fill ya in, liz - the "volunteers" represents the Volunteer Corps, used in the military (think civil war era) - ie the 235th Volunteers. They were not professional soldiers - just regular people who joined to fight, generally with just a rifle etc. The movie "The Patriot" is a good example of the role of the Volunteers in battle etc. Tennessee, having a big civil-war background, goes with the Volunteers for this reason. I think.

The mascot at UMass Dartmouth is the corsair. A corsair is a bohemian pirate.

We're the Golden Hurricanes...It'd be alright, but come on, a hurricane in Oklahoma??!? The Tornados would be more appropriate!

The university I go to's mascot is the Rattler -- nothing out of the ordinary.
However, I do have a friend who goes to Austin College in Sherman, Texas and they are the KANGAROOS!! How fierce! Hahaha! We tease her about it.

While Texas A&M's sports teams and students are Aggies, or Fightin' Texas Aggies as we like to be called, our official mascot is actually an American collie named Reveille.
The Aggies is in reference to the fact that A&M was established as an Agricultural and Mechanical college by the Morril Land Grant of 1862. An Aggie is an ag student, or as we say in some of our yells (not cheers, Aggies don't cheer, we yell), Farmers.
The scary military guy that purpleturtle is refering to is Ol' Sarge. He's not an offical mascot, just an image that is used on Aggie paraphanalia based on A&M's history as an all male military school.
Now, back to Rev. Back in 1929, some cadets had taken a road trip. On their way back to campus, they hit a stray dog with their car. Since A&M also was well known for their veternary school, the cadets put the dog in the car and took it back to the dorms. In the morning, when the bugler blew reveille (the military bugle call to wake up), the dog began barking. The cadets named her Reveille. After she was fixed up, she became the mascot for the school. I believe the first 2 Rev's were mutts, Rev III was the first purebred American Collie.
Some more interesting facts about Rev. She is considered a full-time member of the Corps of Cadets, and each year a sophomore in the Mascot company is charged with taking care of her. The Mascot Corporal as he is known lives with her and takes her to class every day. She is considered the highest ranking member of the Corps. In Old Army days, (how we Aggies refer to the days gone by) if Rev barked in class you were supposed to get a walk that day. Finally, when Rev passes on, she is buried (now inside Kyle Field, it used to be outside before our Zone expansion) facing the scoreboard, so she can always see how her Aggies are doing.
I'm pretty sure that's accurate. Any of y'all Aggie sorority girls on here dated a mascot corporal in case i made any mistakes?

Yes we are the Hurricanes but our mascot is Sebastian the Ibis!
Does the average person actually know what an Ibis is? I didn't until I got here.
