Funny my standard approach is always “Hi im Kevin” it just always seems to get the conversation going. One thing that I have noticed recently is guys at clubs doing this weird noise thing, kind of like psssst psssst (doesn’t translate into text well) it’s like some fucked up version of a whistle. I mean does that work on anyone? Anyways, its hard for a lot of guys to come right out and approach a girl (especially if she’s with friends) but if this guy had the nerve to yell profanity when you wouldn’t come over then I would out right avoid him, he obviously has some issues when it comes to respecting women. At least it sounds totally random so hopefully you will never see him again.

That is one of those things that I always wonder about..Like..when you and a bunch of your friends are walking down the street, and guys in a car will whistle at you, or like yell or whatever..what?? Do they think that we're gonna swoon & go running to them?? Right.

1. There are women that DO respond to that approach . . . therfore it is rewarded and repeated.

2. Women that don't respond to the approach RARELY give the men shit about it . . . Therefore there is no negative feedback and behavior continues. Got to to take my hat off to you for responding that way.

3. When men whistle catcall whatever, they are just showing appreciation for your looks. ITs really not a bad thing. I have had girls driving by whistle, beep, shout, etc. I kind of liked it

While we're on the topic; why is it when you go out with some friends and this girl looks at you from the bar (or wherever), but when you don't go over or buy her a drink you get the big attitude? I mean, I didn't go out to see her (I don't even know her) I went out to see my friends....

I have to admit, that after being in Europe now for 3 months, the difference in American men and European (most, not all) is amazing. I was with some male friends from Germany this past weekend and the way they treated us as friends is better than most boyfriends have ever treated us. I know not all men are bad...but jeez, where are the good ones hiding?

I just wanted to add a different perspective on your comment about men.

In recent years (meaning last 30 years) where women are living more independent and are gaining more rights, some men can't accept the reality that women are more than just something to whistle at. These men you were talking about who called you over, well they need to understand that you are a person and not an object. As for the respect issue, a lot of men, especially when they are in groups with other men, they really like to go overboard with the comments.

I am a guy, and I sometime hate the way some of my friends treat some women. I do go out of my way to tell them that what they are doing is wrong, but some don't care or listen. It will take some time for men to listen but until then there will be a backlash toward women for sometime.

Nick

AHHHH!!!! I hate the pssst thing. That is the most rudest thing a guy can do to a girl. If you want to introduce yourself, go over to her and say, "Hey! I'm [insert name here]. I just wanted to introduce myself." Guys tend not to like the vulnerability that comes along with that one because they are coming right up to you and introducing themselves but, I promise you, anything is better than PSSSSSSSSST!
