A short list-

No:

drinking in letters
exercizing in letters
sleeping in letters
letters on the butt
letters as footwear
letters as underwear
cursing in letters
letters in places where alcohol is being served (such as bar or club)

Must:
wear shoes (no sneakers!) when wearing letters (including umbrellas, bags, jackets)
look polished when in letters
Just curious as to why you can't exercise, sleep in, or wear letters with sneakers? Was it ever explained to you or is it more of a chapter tradition thing?

When we were visiting colleges this year for the hs senior, the campus bookstore at a small, private school that is known to be very politically conservative) actually was selling thongs with various groups' letters on them. I was appalled to say the least (and was glad not to see my GLO in the batch).

No need to feel left out. Apparantly the Pitt book center had these for awhile, and your GLO was one of the ones that they had.

That's because they were all sold out!

Since this particular clothing item wasn't licensed by that group that oversees all GLO licensure, I'm surprised they were allowed to be sold at all at a school bookstore. I thought all of the NPC groups had rules about that.

As I said, I think it's appalling and inappropriate.

Oh yeah, we had a huge debate discussing it awhile back when my little saw these, I started a thread about it. I'm sure if you search for "thong" in the greek life forum you can probably find the thread.

Hell, even one website sells granny panties with letters on them

The school bookstore doesn't give two craps about NPC rules. They're only concerned w/ things having to do with the school.

cough cough CMU thong cough cough

There are licenced items available that are "questionable"/inappropriate.

I've seen shorts with letters on the butt on Greekgear.com

It's too bad that all members of all groups don't have the sense/common decency/whatever to not buy such trash. The manufacturers wouldn't sell them if there was no demand.

Yes, well, we can't all be as classy as you and constantly tell everyone how classy we are.

Don't worry, your daughter, if she is cute, will buy butt shorts, then you can yell at her.

Exercising produces sweat. It's disrespectful to sweat in letters and it doesn't look good. You're supposed to revere your sorority so sleeping in letters is a no-no. And the sneakers thing is a chapter thing because my sorority has an image of being very classy and lady-like and sneakers aren't lady-like. NPHC is kinda stringent when it comes to letter reverence and I am from an Alpha Chapter.

How is wearing heels with a sweatshirt ladylike? I think that looks kind of silly, myself.

Also, what if it is hot outside? Do you just never wear letters?

Shoes don't necessarily mean heels. Boat shoes are very big right now.

I've never seen anyone in my chapter wear a lettered sweatshirt. They're kinda boyish. Usually we stick to t-shirts and line jackets.

If it's hot outside, dress weather appropriately and you won't sweat profusely.
