My whole family is really into the race car circuit so I was very sad to hear the news.
His son came in second and his partner came in first. They must be devastated- I so feel for the all the friends and family who loved him so.

It really is such a sad sad thing when someone dies doing what they are great at.

GOD bless your soul Mr.Earnhardt. You will be missed. And to think one of his greatest races were he showed his competitive and human spirit all at once was the most tragic.

We should all live our lives thinking of others and making sacrifices.

He sacrificed his ability to win, but it is extremely unfortunately that it cost him his life.

I know I personally feel a little more human today and not as cold as humanity can make people feel.

GOD bless you Dale, you legacy will live on in all you have touched!

Unhappy Sad Day

I just want to go on record to say

"Rest in Peace, Dale"

For those of you who aren't race fans, you may think all this coverage of Dale Earnhardt's death to be a little much, but believe me -- this has greatly touched us all in the NASCAR ring! I was never into racing until about 6 years ago, and since then, I have been a true fan. NASCAR is like no other sport in that it is a family thing. Each and every driver, owner, and team, even though they are out to win, really care about each other -- no other sport can compare to the sense of one big family that this sport has to offer. This has just been devastating to us and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family, and to everyone affected by his death. Thanks!

I'm not an auto racing fan, and never will be, but I've been reading a lot about Earnhardt. No matter what sport, or whether you follow it or not, it's always unfortunate when one of its legends passes away. I can imagine it's a tough loss for true NASCAR fans. He will always be remembered.

I don't watch racing either, but I was sad to hear of his death too. It's such a tragedy! Life truly is short....

MaMaBuddha -- are you still a resident there? I was just wondering how crazy things are down there right now.

I am really ticked at the media for sneaking out to the airfield in NC where his body was flown in along with the family and other dignitaries -- they filmed them all coming off the plane and embracing, and then the hearse leaving with a police escort....will the media NEVER learn to leave it alone??? We don't need to see the film from the inside of his car when it happened, and we sure the heck don't need to see his body being driven away in a hearse -- sheesh -- no respect for the living or the dead!!!

I also want to change my original post to read:

"RACE ON, Dale!" since that is what he is doing I'm sure!!

I've been gone the past week on my spring break and just got back about an hour ago from Daytona beach.
I have never before been a Nascar fan or the sport of racing in general. But what I saw from the support and condolences of the community was incredible
He will be always be a legend on and off the track.

While this concerns Indy Racing I can sympathize with those who feel a great loss. In 1999 Greg Moore was killed - he was from Maple Ridge BC (about 11/2 hrs from Vancouver). Our whole city and surrounding areas were totally devasted. He had only been on the Indy circuits for a few years and was had a very promising career ahead of him
