Talking Back to School!

Hey you guys. Well, today was the start of the Spring 2001 semester at UH-Manoa. I was wondering if you guys have started already, and if so-how are your classes so far?

I'm a Political Science major, but since I'm done with my major requirements I decided to chill for a bit and take upper division history courses and maybe work on a minor. Anyway, I'm taking a history course entitled "VIVA LAS VEGAS"...a course that'll consist of watching movies and clips of anything pertaining to Las Vegas--from Beavis and Butthead...to the Simpsons...to the Rugrats Viva Slot Vegas...National Lampoon...Bugsy...Leaving Las Vegas, even Showgirls.

I can't believe how much fun I had on the first day of class--I hope it'll stay that way for the semester. And my prof is so cool, it's like she's royally stoned, but that's normal for her

I wish you all a FABULOUS spring semester--and A MOST PRODUCTIVE RECRUITMENT!

You're taking a college course where you learn all about Las Vegas by watching movies? Boy, life is tough, isn't it?

You should ask your professor if she can add "Swingers" to the syllabus...hilarious Vegas scene in that movie.

Thumbs up

"Honeymoon in Vegas" with Nicholas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker is another good "Vegassy" movie too.

And of course, there's "Casino" too.

Come to think of it, isn't there a Vegas sequence in "Go" too? I can't remember....

Okay, let me get this straight....

1) You live in HAWAII
2) Your upper division History classes include such as "Viva Las Vegas" ?????

Hmmmmm.....

1) I"m freezing my ASS off in Wisconsin
2) My upper division History classes (my entirely sucky major) include such as "The Peasants of Traditional Russia from the 8th -18th Centuries.

I am soooooooooo transfering to your school!

(btw, classes here don't start for 2 more weeks)

Dewgirl, I sympathize with you and the millions of Americans freezing their butts off this winter. Sometimes I feel guilty when I go to the beach and fry in the sun. I really do!

Anyway, this VIVA LAS VEGAS class is fairly new. The professor who created it got the idea on one of her many gambling jaunts, and it's been so popular ever since. The class usually fills up right away, and because athletes on SCHOLARSHIP get pre-registration priority, they naturally fill it up. When prof was taking attendance it sounded like athletic team rosters. The class is currently 30 people over, so she decided to move it to a big lecture hall instead of a regular classroom.

I think we're watching Bugsy and Casino sometime in Weeks 4 and 5. Today we watched one of those TLC documentaries about Las Vegas. I wish all college classes were like this!!!
