I agree that people have the right to post in a public forum. However, the immature and insensitive posts are polluting an otherwise great website. Recently, one has to wade through garbage to find a post worth reading.

This happened before on another forum site that I go to and, for a little while, they had a public alter-checker, so that everyone who was posting under multiple names from the same IP address could be outed. Wouldn't THAT be interesting to see...

Maybe being in a little internet clique gives people a perception of power or acceptance, or maybe they are just having fun - who knows. But I would personally prefer if people kept their random "drive by" posts in the PM's instead of putting them out on the boards.

Just my $.02
Couldn't say it any better. Go you.

I'm not taking sides, just want the hating to end.

<lifesaver feels like he was six when his 'rents used to fight all the time before the divorce. It wasnt plesant then either. >

Maybe John just needs to pull the site down for a week, then all of this would die down and we'd start to miss GC, putting all this aside and appreciate it for what it was intended to be; a FUN place to escape the BS reality of our daily lives and kill some time, while sharing ideas about greek life. Remember kids, thats what this is supposed to be all about anyway. Our GLO's. Lets all remember that we never take our letters off and act that way.

Someday, when John gets boared, or his company moves into other interests GC will be gone. Then we'll all remember it fondly and miss it. Lets appreciate it while we have it. For free

I'll have a sit sit, but I think a drink drink might do them all more good.

I'll take an Amaretto Stone and Sour with a penguin, as well as a side of 3L.

Hmm . . . carrying on a useless internet feud, or alcohol? What to choose, what to choose . . .

Pass me the Bacardi.

I want to ban the use of the phrase "It's just the internet."

I think people on here really have made friendships and connections - even if they haven't met in the flesh. That's awesome. This is a crappy world and we all need all the friends we can get. But you can't say that's real and then turn around and say to someone you insulted or hurt with something you posted "It's just the internet. Get over it." It's kinda like the part in Alice in Wonderland where they say a word means what I choose it to mean, that just isn't the case.

I hesitate to bring this up since it seems like the thread has temporarily cooled off and I'd love to keep it that way, but since you asked . . .

I think it's interesting that James can lament how "mean" certain people on the board are -- referencing the fact that somebody referred to one GCer as ugly, which hurt her feelings -- when he himself has referred to at least one GCer that I can think of, probably more, as ugly and quite a few more as fat. The only difference between these two cases is that the people that James called fat/ugly are grownups and don't need to go crying to the mods.

I think it's interesting that Rudey can throw a temper tantrum when somebody makes a coded message to his real name (ganked from his fraternity website), when just a few months ago he went to another fraternity's website to get another GCers' personal information and post it.

I think it's interesting that Kitso/Monica/Ivory/whomever can b*tch about how cliquey people on the board are and how they're being bullied when 1) they're acting the same way, and 2) the group that they're pissed off about being too cliquey originally banded together in defense of the Kitso/Monica/Ivory/whomever cliquiness last summer. There's a fun fact for you.

Fake personalities? Nobody got pissed off when Kitso was spamming the board with them last year.
Annoying posts? You know what I think is annoying? Word association! Most of the posts in chit chat! Anything where somebody's TMI-ing about their sex life! But I don't care if other people want to post there.
Taking things too seriously? Haha.

Basically, the hypocrisy that is running rampant in much of this thread is pretty interesting. I don't say that to excuse the behavior that I/the H&A/Death Squad/whom the hell ever has been accused of -- I say it because I think people need to take a good long look at themselves before they start getting pissed off at other people.

I feel like the majority of the gripes in this post are aimed at a handful of people (primarily Kath and Sandy, plus whoever is behind the fake LJs and more harmful fake GC names), and I don't see why, if there is such a big problem, those with the problems can't just PM them. If they have and received no response, then sure, go ahead and bring it up on the board. But I know that I haven't received a single PM about any of the issues aired in this thread (despite two invitations), yet I continue to get these accusations hurled at me.

As for the phrase "It's just the internet" -- I agree, it doesn't give somebody license to be any bitchier than they would in real life. But the problem, to me, is that there is a huge difference between real life and the internet and people are not grasping it. Why in the world anybody would get upset because somebody makes a joke about their "designer imposter perfume" ON THE INTERNET is beyond me. Why in the world anybody would care that there's an 11-page thread on "Please pray for the H&A" is beyond me (unless it's John worrying about bandwidth concerns, in which case he should feel free to contact us and we'll tone it down). I don't think it's fair to use "It's just the internet" as an excuse to make fake LJs and fake personalities that are obviously meant to ridicule other people -- but I also worry a little bit if those who are being lampooned really have tons of their self-esteem wrapped up in how an online message board views them. You need to be able to draw the line between the real world and the GC community. At the end of the day, I care about what my roommates/teachers/friends/classmates/sorority sisters think about me -- I don't care about what Kitso/Monica/Ivory/the rest of this board thinks about me. And that is what makes it hard for me to take them seriously, especially considering the way they aired their concerns.

To sum up: You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. And you will get more people to change their behavior by shooting them semi-friendly PMs than hostile Chit Chat lambasting.

The end.

Just like I said before, I don't harass Tom he harassed me. Post after post I would just take his insults about me, my family, my fraternity and people would report him to moderators for his rotten remarks and yet he would still stalk me. His name was in his username. Immediately my post was erased and there was talk of banning me.

I do not harass you. Get this into your thick skull. I don't care much for you. You have your little harem and again I care very little for it (perhaps it's difficult to accept someone on the internet doesn't care for you). If any of you interest me or make me laugh, I talk to you. You have never done either yet you decided to harass me. You decided to go look up my name, which was not on GC already. You knew I didn't want my info on this website. You did as much stalking as you could and then also told people and had people I didn't even know post about me. That was fun? That was funny? Was it warranted because I had harassed you? All those posts were finally removed today and there was no talk of banning you.
