Never said it wasn't fun, or that I wanted to take away the fun. Just said that I can see how it would turn people away. But our job during recruitment is to expell Greek stereotypes and show girls what we're really like. So either way, whatever.

Lampooned?

(1) Have you ever been lampooned?
Yes, but I've done it also so I'm not gona bitch about it.

(2) Do you believe in justice for those who were lampooned?
It's the internet, who cares.

(3) What do you believe should happen to those who did the lampooning?
Give them a treat, and pat them on the head.

(4) Is there any other information about you that makes your qualified or unqualified to serve as a juror in this matter?
No

Well that's good. Cuz I have 45 other girls here in Dearborn Michigan who share the same feeling for this splendid color!

It's kind of like when two people are speaking another language in front of a third person who doesn't understand what they're saying and the other two know it. It's rude to purposely alienate others. I just don't think this is the place for large scale inside jokes.

Sure, this is the Internet. But the fact that friendships, confidences and, yes, cliques have grown from this board shows that just because our contact with each other started out on a computer screen, we're all still "real people" behind our screen names. Each and every one of us have "real lives" outside of GreekChat, but that doesn't mean that it isn't possible for people's feelings to be hurt by things on here.

I just wanted to requote this, because I've been feeling this way for a long time. It's one thing to have one funny thread about (example) so and so's propensity to post when drunk where the person is in on the joke. But it's gotten to the point where it seems like half of chit chat and Greek life is inside jokes and goofs, and I think some people who used to post here a lot are staying away for fear that they'll be the next target.

And I really question the people who used to have opinions on things Greek - which after all, is how we all made our way to this site - but never want to talk about that stuff anymore and all they're doing is goofing with their friends. I guess I'm saying is if you don't want to talk about Greek stuff, and you can communicate with the GC friends you've made through other avenues, why are you wasting your time here, when the main point of the forum obviously doesn't interest you?

Lampooning and satire can be really funny, but it depends on who's doing it and if it's done well. If the person can't help but laugh that usually means it's done well. But not everyone has the same sense of humor, just like not everyone has the same tastes in food or clothes.

I don't want to take away anyone's fun - but if someone else is truly hurt or upset I don't know how that could be fun for anyone.

S- I pretty much agree with your whole post, just wanted to address this paragraph... i think, for some people who used to post on Greek related things and don't right now--its cyclical. Its summer and attention is elsewhere. we all came to this community because of our greek affiliations and/or interests in the greek system. But its not ALL greek all the time--which is the purpose for the chit chat forum.

Especially for alums who don't serve as chapter advisors or are very active as alums. I want to have a network of Greeks, but I don't feel the need to discuss Greek life 24-7. I didn't as a collegian, and I surely don't now.

Or in my case, I talk about greek life enough in the real world. I'm on Panhellenic Exec and I get sick of talking about quota and recruitment and what favors the greek houses are passing out at block party in August. I come on here to goof off with (hopefully) intelligent members of the greek community and to get to know other people who share a common interest.

Agreed. And I still post in the Greek sections when something catches my attention, but for the most part I feel like I've been here long enough that a lot that stuff seems repetitive. I'm not really interested in discussing that people think Grace Kelly and Heather Locklear are Tri Delts when they aren't for the fifth time.

Everyone who replied missed my point.

There are plenty of people who post mostly in chit chat - that's fine - and I understand why you'd get tired of answering "what is a rec" for the 10th time. But there seem to be people on here who not only just post in chit chat, they only direct their posts or the meaning of their posts to a select group. When you're only really "chatting" with a few people - whose IMs, emails and all other contact info you have - why does it have to be on GC?

I see your point 33girl, and I agree.

I'm also pretty sick and tired of people going out of their way to mock my friend which includes starting threads and imitating her signature. If you don't like a gc member, there is no need to be mean.
