Hear, hear! I simply don't like American cars - that's just my taste and I'm sticking to it. I prefer the styling and handling of European cars. Until Detroit can produce something comparable, I'll keep looking across the pond.

My cousin has a Kia and she says she loves her little car.
As far as I know she's hasn't had any problems with it.

I will never buy another American car again.

I have a Ford and in my 5 years of ownership, I have had the air conditioning/compressor go out twice, the tape deck go out twice, the moldings on the outside of the car turn from black to a faded gray, a vibration in the engine that shakes the whole car when I'm in idle, and breaks that make "chugging" noises like a train when I stop (I've had them checked out four different times and the mechanics cannot find anything wrong...they say it's just a "Ford problem"...my friend has the same car as me and her car does it too).

My sister has a Honda Civic. It is a '99 just like my car. Besides normal maintenance, she has had no problems with her car.

My dad has a BMW and mom has a Lexus. They have never had any problems with their cars.

There is a good reason that American cars have a bad reputation and until they can make a car that is comparable to the foreign cars, I will never buy another American car.

GM has been making some real strides to play catch up. They've even admitted that in the past, their quality was inferior. Consumer Reports (which is not a 100% trustworthy publication IMO) has them right below the Japanese car makers as far as quality goes -- and they've come a long way since the 80's. Ford hasn't done much apparently to adjust to the times and continues to put out a cheap product -- which is one reason, price-wise, they are still just about as cheap an American car as you can get.

Their trucks aren't bad though.
