I wish. Living in Texas makes it hard to get up there when no one will go with me!!! (I'm the only musical-groupie I know). I do have a cousin who lives in Brooklyn-she's offered her couch. Now I just need to find some time off, a cheap plane ticket, and some cash for the tickets!!! (and a babysitter for the kiddoes...).

Oh well. I'm just glad I can watch the Tonys and see what I'm missing. *sigh* Gotta go buy some soundtracks, now.

There are, however, a lot of great community theatres in places like Dallas, Houston, OKC, Witchita, etc. who do some very good and very contemporary work.

The show "Brooklyn" which will premiere on Broadway in the next couple of months got it's "trial balloon" here in Denver. The national traveling companies of both Lion King and Sunset Boulevard both originated here.

Of course, the traveling companies are very much on a par with a lot of the Broadway casts these days (many of their members actually played the same roles in NY). They're hitting the road much quicker these days, too. I saw Movin' Out and Hairspray in NY last year (their Tony years), and have already seen both again here in Denver. Wicked is allegedly supposed to be here in 2005 -- which isn't that far away.

ETA, xo_Kathy, I just read your post and I think this is a very astute critique of Wicked:

"Both Kristen and Idina were amazing, but my issue with Wicked is this: the singing is far better than the songs. The plot is ok, but nothing outstanding, IMO. The sets and costumes are wonderful! The dancing is an afterthought. It's an extremely entertaining musical with two amazing leads.

Although I do think the music gets better as the show progresses. "Because I Knew You" is a great duet, and as Mrs. DeltAlum points out will probably be sung by musical theatre types at High School Graduations forever.

True-when I lived in Dallas, I got my fill, and was a season ticket holder for the Dallas Summer Musicals. But I've been in Lubbock for 4 years, and they keep bringing back the same old stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love Les Mis, but can't bear to see Cats or Oklahoma again.

Ouch!

Well, they're doing Asassians (can't spell) and another older show I can't remember at O.U. in Norman next year.

That's only a half day drive away.
