Well, the Mu Mus get to wear those cool, huge, smock things and that's not fair!

No, seriously, I understand what you are saying now. However, when I was a pledge, we couldn't wear letters. But my roomie, a DG, could. She wore hers all the time. I would think you'd want to because everyone else can't?!? Maybe that's just me.

I've never been a supporter of that "earning your letters" thing anyway, though. I was the type of pledge who put more into my chapter than some of the active members! (And I am sure there are New Members like that in every chapter of every org. at every school.)

in my chapter, we get our first set of letters on bid day!!! then the wednesday following bid day, we all wear our bid day shirts to school (all greeks wear letters at our school wednesdays). during my new member semester all of the new members got shirts and stuff made with letters. some of my friends at other schools in other glos cant wear their letters at all til they are initiated. i guess its different at every school though?

Just a thought, but how is it considered hazing to not allow new members to wear letters but is not hazing to prevent them from wearing/owning the crest? Seems like if you apply the same theory then you should be allowed to wear the crest also. How does nationals justify one but not the other? Just my two cents!

I often thought the same thing re: letters vs crest.

I guess, as NutBrn pointed out, the pledge pin has letters on it. Therefore we put our letters on our NMs right off the bat, so we can't tell them not to wear them? Just a guess, though.

at my school, we were allowed to wear letters before initiation. this was because we had the longest pledge semester of all of the sororities...and i presume, because we are all so beautiful and talented, our sisters wanted to show us off.
