Greek Unity

I think that each of our organizations have special qualities that draw us to them. However, when we work together on certain projects or functions, it makes all of us look good.

We can compete, as long as we maintain good sportsmanship. If we become stronger, everyone wins. If we become bitter, everyone loses.

Well I just transferred to DePaul and the Greek life seems to be in a transition stage. But if I'm not mistaken we have everyone except Sigma and Ques.Most of the chapters on campus are city-wide so the numbers are kinda low.

I repspect the ORGs and their rich history but I cannot respect all members - ie those that do not do anything. Even the most party happy person can be put to good use. I know of a person that only became greek because in their own WORDS "I wanted to stroll and step" But they turned this into a positive because now they work with high school kids on stepping as a extra-cirricular(sp) activity. But greeks that just rock para and do no positive programs and just go out and haze and don't TEACH while they haze is not cool to me.

Well, I agree with what everyone has said. But, there is always room for friendly competition, too. We keep eachother on our toes...we're not competing for resources or members, necessarily. We just continuously raise the bar--competition is more than a stepshow-thing.
My father pledged Alpha the spring of 1958...the 8 organizations kept eachother on their toes and ensured that each organization is always representing to the fullest and doing the best programs, too.

You know I did not come into this sisterhood until last year and the school where I was teaching at had all of the Divine 9 on it's staff except SGRho. I was the only one. It was funny because when I started wearing para to work everyone Greek greeted me, etc. except a Kappa and an AKA whom I worked closely with everyday. My feelings were kind of hurt but I got over it. I think some people "grown 30+" people are just still stuck in college!!

This IS a great topic. While my undergrad had only 5 of the 9 represented, we were generally on good terms. I commend those campuses where all the D9 can work together and push each other to greater heights.

I have witnessed situations where Greeks supported each other's community programs and cooperated on different projects, but I have also witnessed the presence of members of different orgs who felt they were too good to associate with or support any org other than their own or their brothers. Like their letters lifted them to supersocial status.

Of course, there are special things about each of our orgs that attracted us to them, so our first loyalty should be to our own group, but doesn't it look bad on all of us when certain org members aren't even civil to other Greeks in public? It's like they don't even respect them as human or African American brothers or sisters or something.
