Question Sigma Chi Ring

My boyfriend of 3 and a half years gave me his Sigma Chi ring before he left for Paris. He told me that he couldn't wait to get back in 3 weeks to explain the ring to me. My friends have told me that it means I am lavaliered...is this right? He always told me that it was a huge ordeal for a Sigma Chi to give out their letters and that it rarely happened. I always thought he told me this so that I wouldn't be upset that I was never lavaliered. Now, I'm not so sure...
Can someone tell me the meaning of the gesture?

Sound like a drop to me. At least we call them drops... lavalier is the same. It's a big deal for a Sig to give up his letters. Especially with what his brothers do to him after he drops his girl. Congratulations!
