awwwww thanks *blushing*

GOD bless you, your sorority, and your amazing founders.

(I have a special place in my heart for your founders since my grandmother *who raised me* was a wonderful teacher and educator just like they were)

Facts About RHOmeo's... given 2 me frm a RHOmeo

Due to an enormous amount of misconceptions, ignorance and mis-leadings about (their) my fraternity,
I have decided to compile a list of FAQs for my organization to help educate anyone who would have questions.

For those who do not know, I am a National Officer of Sigma Rhomeo and I will answer as many questions as I can.

If you have any, please send them to me in a PM (or post them in this note, once I see it i will then remove it and add it to the collective) I and I will reply to them as best as I can in an orderly fashion.

FAQ's

• Are you an Aux?

No. This is probably the biggest misconception about our organization.
The Fraternal Order of Classy Gentlemen: Sigma Rhomeo Inc (also DBA Sigma Rhomeo Fraternity Inc.) is a functioning incorporated fraternity.

We make no qualms, are not ashamed and accept our history that our organization started out as an affiliate organization. That purpose has not been as such since 1980.
It is public knowledge (though not widely known) that some of the NPHC organizations started out as social organizations before becoming incorporated fraternities and sororities.

•Why do you have only one greek letter?

We have two greek letters. Sigma and Rho. There is a common misconception amongst african americans that fraternities and sororities are validated by the number of letters they posess(often times 3). The origin of this train of thought is unknown, in light of the fact that MANY two letter Fraternities and Sororities have existed decades before the founding of BGLOs.

•Why do you use an "R" and not a Rho?

We wear the "R" for historical reasons. It is a symbolic representation of part of our history that we choose to express outwardly through our paraphernalia.

•Is Sigma Rhomeo ever going to try to join NPHC?

No. Joining NPHC is not a current nor future goal of the fraternity.

•Why do you have canes?

Canes are an outward symbolic representation of esoteric information known only by members.

•Are you the little brothers of Sigma Gamma Rho?

No.

•There are Rhomeos nearby or on my campus, but they are nothing like how you have described your organization, why is that?

More than likely they are NOT Sigma Rhomeos, but some "knock off" auxilary created by the Sigma Gamma Rhos of that area.
Which is illegal.
These orgnaizations go by many names to deter legal ramifications from SGRHO HQ and Sigma Rhomeo Nationals.

The names are Rhoyales, Gents, G.E.N.T.S., Gamma Men, and Debonaires or Debos.

many of them have "popped" up on facebook and on campuses and are visually mistaken for Sigma Rhomeos.
These organizations are not to be confused with Sigma Rhomeo Inc. in any way shape or form. Usually these organizations have no solid history other than what is given to them by SGRhos.

Sigma Rhomeo has its own information, history, shield, esoteric info, grip, rites and etc. Only a Sigma Rhomeo can make another Sigma Rhomeo.
Sigma Gamma Rho has no part in our intake nor functions of our fraternity.

•So what is your relationship with Sigma Gamma Rho?

Collectively the relationship between Sigma Gamma Rho and Sigma Rhomeo is only historical. Some members of both organizations choose to accept it and operate on that bond, others do not.

•You mentioned some SGRho's acknowledge the bond, some do not. How do most Rhomeo's feel about this and about SGRho's who show Kappas more love??

It makes no difference how we as a fraternity or as individuals feel in regards to what is established history. Those who choose to acknowledge the bond do so in varying levels. Those who do not (be they frat or sgrho) go about life with no issues.

We also lay no claims on who anyone, namely SGRhos, "show love" to. Most SGRhos do not have Rhomeo's near them nor have ever met any, so the concept of "showing love" to an organization they do not operate with on a daily basis is foreign to them. In short, if I may voice my PERSONAL OPINION, It is PLENTY of "SGRho Love" to go around.

•Does Rhomeo have undergrad and grad chapters like D9 frats?

We have Undergraduate Chapters and Alumni Associate Chapters.

•At one time there were auxiliary orgs for most if not all the original 8, so why did only Sigma Rhomeo take it upon itself to become its own org?

Rhomeo did not start off as a "typical" auxiliary org. Rhomeo's were originally husbands and boyfriends of SGRho's who protected them during the racially charged climate of Indiana. As the sorority grew, so did Rhomeo. They were not a "subservient" organization to SGRho. In 1980 at PVA&M Univ, 6 men decided to make a change to better the growing organization as it original purpose no longer was in need of being met.
So when NPHC disbanded all affiliate(auxiliary) organizations in 1989, Rhomeo had already begun to stand on its own.

•Are you allowed to pledge another fraternity after you pledge Rhomeo?

In the past and in its early stages, members of Sigma Rhomeo were allowed to hold dual membership. It is no longer allowed.
Before the rule was set into place, past memebers of Rhomeo that had joined other organizations (NPHC) were "grandfathered" in and are welcome to contribute to the goals and direction of the fraternity.

•What is a Juliet and how is it related to Rhomeo's?

Juliet is an organization founded by a lone former member of Sigma Rhomeo. It was never founded with nor garnered the approval of the fraternity. Individual chapters adopted them as a "sister" organization but this was never approved nationally.
Their colors were originally Pearl White and Antique Gold.
Recently they have resurfaced with drastic modifications to their organization that been noted as more than disrespectful. (ie wearing Rhoyal blue and using "Sigma" before their name when they were never known as such at their inception)

Just a few thoughts...

Just to be clear, Legitimate Sigma Gamma RHOmeos were still being made through 1989. While Sigma Rhomeo may have begun planning its future in 1980, the parent organization, SGRhomeo, was still alive and well and functioning as an official affiliate of Sigma.

True, Rhomeos were originally the husbands, boyfriends, men in Sigma Women's lives but they did not, nor were they purposed for protecting us during the "racially charged climate of Indiana."

They assisted us with executing our mission and providing public service and programming so that all persons, particularly African Americans, could exercise their full potential and citizenship.
