LOL. Is your PM status back up or do I have to dig through old emails to find your email address?

On the topic, I believe for ALL of our organizations, old heads treat many of the newest changes with disdain. Some changes are understandable and are a natural progression as new generations enter the orgs. However, when an org attempts to alter its original purpose, older members will be less likely to financially support the org and it will become unstable. That's the LAST thing you want as a younger organization.

You're right. Some "old heads" do see change in an negative light but usually come around in the end. Some changes are inevitable and need to occur for an organization to grow, we understand that.

Other changes are made from those outside the organization, like a school's administration. And, these changes, although on the UG level, affect all members who interact with PMs.

Many changes have been made in recent years as schools crack down harder and harder to prevent opportunities for hazing to occur. Some "old heads" are resistant to these changes as well because it differs from their experience. But, it's either play by the rules or lose school recognition/chapter status, etc. Therefore, we accept those changes as well.

What you have stated (in bold), I see as a change that is completely unacceptable.

I would be furious if my organization was now calling itself "multicultural with Latina founders" or any other phrasing that we're starting to see. Sometimes I wonder how older members of these orgs. feel.
I've seem some orgs drop "latino/a" on their national site and members now claim that they are a multicultural organization but have seen some chapter websites of said orgs that claim they are the largest latino/a org in the nation, just as recently as this morning, as a matter of fact.

Yo no se

Wow... That's tacky. Plus ~ where is the consistency between Chapter and National organization? Does it even exist anymore? Is that too "old school"?

Frat,

First of all, I too believe in the 7.

Anyway.... Multicultural GLOs are organizations that intentionally promote multiculturalism and cultural pluralism through their mission, programs, and history.

There have been lively discussions about the topic prior to you getting to GC, but I can't recall their titles.

I'm not quite understanding this disagreement. Is the problem that people don't believe that there are (or were) latinos within the last 10 years who called themselves "Spanish?" I can take people to Detroit myself and show you...

Yep, that is essentially the debate. Nitido feels I was incorrect in my assessment that I'd never heard "latino" used before I entered college in 1999/2000.

I completely agree with you wicked! I am the President of a multicultural sorority (www.lambdaphixiunr.com) and as you can see we are truly multicultural and it is one of our founding principles to focus on maintaining diversity and it is really annoying how other groups, usually when needing numbers, say they are now multicultural. At my school I like the girls in Kappa Delta Chi but they got mad at us in the Fall for saying we are the only multicultural sorority but my response was if you say you are multicultural but every single girl is Latina than that speaks for itself it has nothing to do with what we are putting out there as part of our recruitment. If you check out our site be sure to check it again on Friday because then it will be updated with our 18 new sisters!

I personally love the word colored if I'm the one using it. So does my mentor.
