I usually try to stay away from these kinds of threads b/c people tend to get upset and take things a little too personal. I will however start by saying that I have much respect for SGRho. However, I can see how my Soror Discrete1 could say that she's never heard of a bond between SGRho and KAPsi. On the campus were I was raised, they hung out together, and or dated, but the first time I heard the term "Indiana Love" has been in the last couple of years. It is interesting to note that not all members of Kappa Alpha Psi nor Sigma Gamma Rho feel that there is any sort of connection, but some do. The same could be said for Delta and Que or AKA and Alpha, etc. etc. Although from what I hear a lot of organizations have some kind of history with each other. In the end, this whole bond thing is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. All that really matters is that each organiZation is serving it's purpose and continuing to live out their legacies left by their founders.

Okay, folks. It is not like Indiana Love is the first thing I think about when I wake up or anything. This is not that serious.

However, when somebody who has no knowledge of my org's history or anything comes up and "respectfully" says that it could be something that we must "do on our own" just because they are not educated in the matter, I just try to enlighten.

Like I said before, it is not that serious.

Now that the misunderstanding is out of the way...just wanted to bring us back to the original topic.
Out of curiosity, and since this topic comes up often, what constitutes (no pun intended) a "valid," "purposeful," or "meaningful" brother/sister relationship?
Does there have to be more of an historical perspective, as opposed to just a similarity in colors, or who you feel more comfortable "hanging with," etc.? For instance, there are some Deltas who talk about "Crimson and Cream Love" as opposed to Coleman Love. Not like any of us think about love for any fraternity before the love for our beloved sororities, but since this thread is still active, I'm just curious.

Well obviously all of the aforementioned traditional connections (Phirst Pham, Coleman Love, ZPBS, Indiana Love) have to do with history, so I think most people tend to gravitate that way.

But in undergrad I think it does have a lot to do with who you kick it with, so therein comes the variation. For instance, on my campus, the last Kappa line was comprised of guys I came into college with last year... therefore, I, and some of my LS's tend to kick it with those guys more basically because we were cool before the whole Greek situation. Does that make sense?

Anyway, my point is that because we kick it socially doesn't mean I'm trying to have them as my brothers. It means we're friends, period. Unfortunately, some other orgs. and individuals on campus don't see it that way.

What constitutes a brother/sister relationship to me is mutual support, respect and love. If we're having an event, it's already a known fact that the Alphas will be there to support, and vice versa. If it's somebody's birthday, chances are we'll have a Skee-Phi. I know if somebody is tryna mess over me, I can just get my bruhs on em.

These guys have been there for me from the start in every way, and I love them. Now, I got love for anybody that has love for me... but all these things combined with the shared history makes them brothers to me.

Up heya where I'm at, none of the frats refer to the sororities or anything else as sorors. They have their reasons for kickin' it with them, but that's that. It's gon be different no matter where you go. Me and my bruhs kick where the kickin' is best.

I don't exactly know what organization you're in, but I read your "back in the day" reference, and expected you to have SP86 or something beside your name. LOL. If "back in the day" is SP97, then I'm feeling really old right now
