I like classic names like Maragaret, Katherine, Virginia, Elizabeth, Lucille (Lucy)...I know that is boring but I'm more into classic family names.

I have a student whose American translation of her chinese name is Princess, so that is her given American name. At first I thought, "Ugh, why would you name your kid Princess." But she is a wonderful young lady.I wouldn't do it to my future offspring, but hey...to each their own. I guess I just don't like odd spellings of normal names, but then people have been screwing up my name for years and it's normal.

I met a woman over the weekend who is naming her daughter Paisley. I can't decide if I like it or not.

I am SO glad that I'm not the only person who tends to do this!! I have 3-4 names that I absolutely HATE because of the people I've known with it. It's really hard to give someone a fair chance, when I first meet someone with those names.
I would never name a child Jeffrey. Ever. I would call my son Fido first.

YAY!! I'm not the only one!! Hehehe...trust me, there are a few names that I have that I adore...like Meredith and Rachel...and I WILL NOT be around a person with those names (unless they are my friends) because I don't want to have those names soured because of one person's attitude.
Oooh and FYI to Lindz....I actually had ADORED the name Lindsey, but I had gone to a pageant competition (yes I was in a pageant...once and HATED it) and every other girl was named Lindsey and they were not the nicest girls, and so that soured my the name. I didn't like that every person I met was named Lindsey (and most spelled it soo differently), and I just couldn't think that my daughter might be 1 of 15 lindsey's in her class! lol. But it is still a pretty name

For some reason, I'm like that with the name Sharon. My favorite cousin (who is Sweetness Personified!), Big Sister, and 2 Little Sisters are all named Sharon!

If I name any daughters I have Katherine/Catherine, I will probably NOT call her Kate. Katie or Cathy/Kathy, yes, but not Kate. Kate was the name of a very b.tchy girl I went to Brownies (if little girls can be b.tchy)....kind of soured it...But you know, things can change too...

No I never said that...and Sara is not an odd spelling, but Scerra or Serra would be. I'm talking about things like Jaymee instead of Jamie, or Jinger instead of Ginger, or Kaytee instead of Katie. It may be original, but I don't particularly like it.
And no, I wouldn't name my kid Sara or Sarah...one of each in my family already.

nayeli= nigh-yell-ee
Its an indigenous Mexican name and I think it means "I love you." I'm not too sure though, I just remember finding names like that when my aunt was pregnant, and I feel in love with it.
Just like I feel in love with the name Xochitl. Thankfully everyone I know with that name are sweethearts!! lol.
Xochitl---SO-CHEE-TL (kinda sounds like so chill). It is Nahuatl (the Aztec language) and it means "flower." It was the name of a princess or something like that.

I was just wondering, because you thought that your student's name was strange. I asked, because Sarah means "princess."

I promsie I didn't take offense. It's weird, all of my life, Lindsey has been a relatively common name, but I like it because I haven't seen it to be OVERLY common, like say.... Amber or Amanda. MY kindergarten class (we're talking like 15 kids) had 3 Ambers!!! That's crazy.
When I pledged my chapter, I was the third Lindsey (out of around 150).
I would probably hate the name too if I met a bunch of biatches with it.

It's not that I think Princess is strange, I just wouldn't name my child "Princess"for fear that people would treat her like a pariah because she has that name. My student's American name is Princess but her chinese name is "princess" in chinese...which is why her parents chose that translation.
Like I said, to each their own...and BTW Sarah can also mean "lady".
