I dont know, I just think it's easy for us to stand here and be like "oh go see a dentist, go see a dermatologist", when the majority of us had parents who were able to afford that. My teeth started out a little crooked - they're perfect now because my parents could afford to get me braces. Does that give me the right to say that EVERYONE should do that? No. I'm lucky. That doesn't make me better.

I guess my point is that maybe we should try to be a little sensitive to the readers out there who have these incurable problems. Can't we stick to the things like buying knock-off handbags? That one is funny, and it's a behavior that people can change. I think if you're going to judge people based on their appearance, judge on things you know for sure they are choosing for themselves. Like knock-off handbags, tatoos, and skanky clothes. Those are choices people actively make for themselves. You can't differentiate between people who are just too lazy to go see a dentist and people who can't afford it, or people who choose to keep their nasty whiteheads, and people who honestly have tried EVERYTHING and nothing helps.

Guess that's my superficial issue

ETA: Sorry to be so oversensitive. I just feel bad for the people who read this who may have these problems and get their feelings hurt.

I meant the whole acne problem to those that don't try to do anything about it. That bugs the crap out of me. My cousin, who is very dear and near to my heart, had the worst time with acne and he did something about it and his skin is great now. It's just those that don't care and won't do anything about it. I never said I had the perfect complexion. I do get a pimple here and there due to stress. I do something about it. If you all took it the wrong way, then, I am sorry, your opinion is just as valid. For those that knew what I was talking about, thanks for posting.

This is a superficiality thread. If you read through the lines of the title, then, people would realize that these are just superficialities and, in the long run, it doesn't really matter because it's all superficial things that might bug just one person out of a million. Superficial things do not amount to a hill of beans, really. This is just a thread that is basically saying what bugs people. It's not going to bring down the world as we know it just because we posted replies. I really don't believe that it's really going to change much of anything. It's just good sometimes to vent and move on with our lives. I don't expect just because I posted something about acne that "poof" all the acne troubles will go away. That's not the point. It's the people that don't care that bug me, whether it's acne problems or jeans that show their butt.

I'm starting to develop a real distaste for the current trend of nurses NOT wearing their caps. I can remember when the capping ceremony was SO important! I'm in hospitals & nursing homes a lot due to my job, and there are times that I'd like to be able to see a cap & get the answers I need, not read 100 nametags first, just in case it would read, "Jane Doe, RN" instead of "Jane".


Somewhat funny story about men wearing hats indoors. I was at an indoor soccer game with a couple friends, and their friends. One of these friends of a friends has one of the foulest mouths I've ever heard on a woman. There was a group of younger teenage boys in front of us, and as we stood for the National Anthem, the one didn't take his hat off.

The "Foul Mouth" knocked his hat off, saying, "You take your f**ng hat off when they play the f***ng National Anthem, you stupid m***f***er!!!"

I'll bet he never makes that mistake again!

My apologies, but I'm going to hijack the thread here for a minute.

I think that part of the reason that you got some heated reactions is because acne is a condition that's often misunderstood. Acne is not caused by a lack of cleanliness or "stress." It is caused by overactive hormones which overproduce oils that trap bacteria in your pores. In fact, being too zealous when you clean or over-using medications can often backfire and make acne worse. I believe that someone also mentioned its gross to see whiteheads go unpopped. Well, its actually dangerous to pop a whitehead because it can get infected and/or cause deep scarring.

I'm going to be the first to admit that this is a very sensitive subject for me. I started having serious acne at the age of 11. I've used every topical and antibiotic medication out there. I also had to use Accutane twice. The skin on my face is much better now, although I do get an occasional pimple. However, I still have some cystic acne on my back, and I can't be prescribed Accutane a 3rd time for reasons I won't go into right now.

I guess this is a touchy subject because, if I were to be on the beach in a bathing suit, or in a strapless dress,you would presume that I'm not doing anything about my acne. Nothing could be further from the truth. You just *don't know how* that person is trying to treat the problem unless you are in the dermatologist's office with him.

I also take exception to the statement that they "just don't care." I assure you, 99.9% of people who have problem acne care. We care A LOT, because they know that there is this prevailing attitude out there that people with acne don't have good personal hygiene. Acne is probably one of the most embarrassing conditions a person can have, and its something that they CAN'T HELP having, just like any other disease.

So anyway, to make a long story short, until you've walked a mile in someone else's shoes its impossible to know what they're thinking or how they're feeling. And before you reply, I realize that this is a post about superficialities and, as you say, in the long run it may not amount to a hill of beans. However, sometimes what you put out into this world has repercussions that you may not have intended or meant to be malicious.

Although I know you were being superficial and I'm sure you didn't mean to, your comments really hurt my feelings tonight, and I think you probably hurt other people's feelings too. I don't expect an apology; feelings get hurt all this time and that's just the way the world works. I think we just wanted you to be aware that sometimes words can cut to the bone; whether you meant it to or not. Just something to think about.

It's not the ability to not distinquish them from the doctors, it's being able to distinquish them from nurses aides. Too many nurses aides will pretend that they are nurses, and can really foul up the whole patient interview.

They even make nurses aides pins that are almost identical to that of an RN or Lpn!

*Okay, if you're wearing anything Navy, you MUST wear BROWN shoes, not black shoes. Usually woman get this right, but men drive me crazy.

the one exception to this is if you are wearing gray (ex: gray shirt w/navy pants). you can't wear gray with brown

An exception is for students in schools with strict dress codes. From what I remember, all private school students in Toronto wear black oxford shoes, regardless of their school uniform's colours.

I am superficial about:

-White after labor day, winter white is acceptable
-Linen and Pique after labor day
-Capri Pants that are too tight
-Clothes on people that are too tight, please it's okay to buy a size larger!
-Girls, not ladies, who show their thong off in low rider jeans or low rider pants. Sorry that is tacky, same for bra straps that show.
-Blondes who do not keep their hair maintained! If you are going to go blonde, be ready to keep it up!
-Open toe shoes when it is snowing outside or freezing cold. This is okay if it is with a formal. But not for work!
-Eyebrows that are not maintained.
-Nails that are not maintained. If your nail polish is chipping off take five minutes to take it off! I had to train my roommate about that one! She looked all cute in her clothes and then her nail polish would be coming off!
-Women who powder their nose in public, that is what the Ladies Room is for!


Oh and this is sort on the subject, I have a co-worker who dresses like she is going to the bar. Her clothes are cute but not for work! She wears sheer tops with a bra under them and I'm like, oh heavens! Not a work! There is a time and a place for everything!
