Talking Homecoming Tea

We have an Alum tea coming up. I was just wondering if there was anything that would be cute "Tea like" food that we could make that kind of related to ADPi. We have stuff that relates to the local that our chapter was before we were ADPi. If anyone could help that would be great.

Absolutely! I have both easy & harder recipes.

The one thing I try to stress to chapters (ones that aren't filthy rich, anyhow) is that alumnae really don't expect you to put a lot of money into a Homecoming or Alumnae event. They've been there, they know what it costs.

So, plan on a few things, but serve them elegantly. If the Chapter has silver or china, this is the time to trot it out. <Polishing silver is a good Pride event!> Have coffee & tea on hand, with hot water for decaf in the kitchen.

Shopping list should be something like:
*Coffee (not instant!)
*Decaf coffee
*Tea
*Lemon slices
*Sugar (cubes really dress it up)
*Sugar substitute
*Tea goody #1
*Tea goody #2
*Tea goody #3
*Seedless grapes (break into small clusters for both decoration and eating
*Strawberries (ditto, but only if they're not too expensive)
*Mixed nuts (one large can).
*Pillow mints (one package should suffice).
*Napkins, if you're not using cloth.

Ideas for tea goodie include:
* The tea sandwiches I mentioned under adpiucf's bridal shower thread; cut them into diamonds.
*Sugar cookies #1 (Roll out very thin, and using a ruler, cut them into diamonds. Dilute frosting with water until you have more of a glaze (white or tint blue). Then, put baked diamonds on a wire rack, pouring the glaze over them. They'll look very chic! I like blue diamonds with two piped white stars at the appropriate places, or white diamonds with violets on them - harder to make!)
*Sugar cookies #2 (flavored with orange, lemon or almond extract). (Use an oval or egg-shaped cookie cutter, and pipe 2 eyes & a smile. Then, using orange frosting, outline the cookie, and while still moist, roll the edges into orange tinted coconut for a mane.)

FYI - one never puts tea bags out on a tea table! I have promised to haunt my chapter if I ever see them putting tea bags out to become mushy, icky trash left on the otherwise lovely table!!

You, my sister, were "raised right." God bless your clearly thorough and elegant mother.
That post just made me smile.

Ok, Honeychile, you should be in the party planning business!! I would love to come to a tea at your house! Or you could write a book and sell it at GiftMart- how to plan the perfect ADPi party!

FYI- The WalMarts near me have violet paper napkins, plates, etc. right now. Very cute!

Thank you, everyone! I'm sure y'all have wonderful teas at your homes, too! We're very fortunate to have our beloved diamond - it's SO easy to make cookies & tea sandwiches in the diamond shape! When I was an active, our Alumnae Association always bought us gorgeous petit fours for Pref. They were larger than the average petit four, and were decorated just like the diamond sugar cookies I mentioned. I would really like to see the Chapter go back to those - they were breath taking!

I think I've seen those beautiful violet napkins - they are really lovely! Our local party store also carries "I kid you not" azure blue napkins (the nice, soft ones!), plates, etc. I often wonder if I should pick up a large package for the Chapter.

And some gourmet shops (and I think Bigelow tea online) carry sugar cubes with violets on them! Be still, my heart!

This is the best price for the sugar cubes I've seen online - AND you can order all blue! It's roughly the same as going to a gourmet shop:

Decorated Sugar Cubes

It's one of those very simple things that will make people remember *your* tea!

Hmmm... I have this sudden urge to start planning a tea...!

WLFEO, I love your idea about the ADPi Party Book! You know how some chapters will make a cookbook and sell it as a fundraiser? I was just thinking that maybe we could do this on an International level.

You seriously should write one! I have always wanted to write one on easy ADPi crafts for Spirit chairs or party favors. Maybe we should collaborate!

I will say that I would buy one...and probably a copy for my chapter too...

This also reminds me of the urge to run a workshop for my chapter on table manners...cause I am sorry to say, for a formal dinner or even a day to day event my chapter is very much lacking in this area...
