After being thin (5'9", 135 lbs) all my life, I began gaining weight after developing thyroid disease. It's been a long hard battle back to being healthy. I'll never be that thin again (and don't want to be), but I'm not as heavy as I was when my thyroid disease was at its worst. I went on the Adtkin's Diet in Sept 99 and lost 65 pounds in 8 months and have kept it off. I'm in a size 10 dress now, down from a 16. The secret for me was to cut back on sugars (in fruit and soft drinks, pastries, cakes, cookies, etc) and other carbs (to include pasta, breads, rice, corn, and potatoes). I also increased veggies, and drink LOTS of water. I do allow myself a treat (McD's fries, ice cream, some hot, buttered corn bread muffins) now and then. I just don't go to the extreme and go hog wild, and I don't beat myself up about breaking my lifestyle change, either. The next day, I make up for it with better eating habits. In terms of exercise, I walk, walk, walk. I take the stairs instead of the elevators and park as far out in parking lots as possible. It's simple things like this that make a difference. Juggling two kids, two cats, a full-time job, and grad school, I've just recently gotten the energy to start combining weight lifting and aerobics to try to tone up and reduce body fat. Two suggestions about supplements: take multi-vitamins with B-complex and stay away from ANYTHING containing MaHuang and/or Guarana. Both of these additives artificially raise the heart rate, metabolism and other bodily functions, sometimes dangerously high. The potential damage done to your body isn't worth losing a little weight. What ever you do, make it a lifestyle change. Work to get healthy, not just to lose weight. My last admonition: no matter what size/shape you come in, be comfortable with yourself as you are.
Skee Wee, Sorors and peace SFs and others.

Bringing this back to the top!!! It's almost summer time (even though here in NYC, NJ it's FREEZING) How is the weight loss going?
*TOTAL ELEGANCE* Girl...body solutions didn't do a ding dang thing for this sista. I'm glad it worked for you though. I'm back on weight watchers *the price went UP* and I'm doing good. I'm also thinking about doing Pilates. I just want to drop like 15 pounds.
Updates everybody...let's get the motivation going.

I've lost 10lbs in 1 month by cutting back on fried foods, doubled the amounts of vegetables that I eat, drinking PLENTY of water (Crytstal Light is a nice change too), limiting my sugar intake and working out 3-5 days per week. My new favorite cure for a "sweet tooth" is sugar-free Jello, topped with Lite Cool-Whip! Ania I feel you girl, when I first started out out, I couldn't walk on the treadmill for 5 minutes without getting "winded". And toocute I know what you mean about this "fall" weather we're having over here, brrrrrrrrr for May (59 degrees today)!
Keep up the good work everyone!!!!!

Hey Conskeeted19!
I tried the diet pill ADIPEX(generic name Phentermine) YES, THEY DID WORK! I went from a "snug" 12 to a "comfortable" 7/8 It took a little over 5 months. I was TOO HAPPY! Purchased a WARDROBE of the finest cloths, couldn't tell me nothing! The GOOD thing is that I kept the weight off for over a year..The VERY BAD thing is...All of those fine clothes that are hanging in my closet are TOO SMALL as of Today...Your Girl is "creeping" back to a size 12, I am too stressed about that. I have considered taking the pill again BUT THIS TIME I will ADD SOME PHYSICAL ACTIVITY so that it won't come back.

This is a good topic for us to share tips, techniques, etc.
After having my second child, I had packed on a lot of extra weight. I don't know when it happened. It seemed like one day I woke up and was suddenly wearing a size 18.
Last September, I joined Weight Watchers. In 8 months now, I've lost 55lbs. That's also combined with a good workout program. I walk for 45 minutes - 2 days a week and do Water Aerobics 3 times a week. Water aerobics is WONDERFUL. You get 2-3 times more strenuous aerobic activity than a regular indoor class, without the heavy bouncing and sweating. In my class, we monitor our heartrate. Mine goes up to 220 at the most intense part. I recommend it to everyone. This time of the year is great also...very refreshing to be in the water.
I never had any "emotional eating" problems. I just like good food!!! Now, I've learned how to prepare really good food minus half the fat. I'm experimenting with new dishes all the time.
Along with the changes I've made in cooking and eating, I COMPLETLY cut out SODA. Now when I taste it, I'm grossed out by how sugary that stuff tastes. I drink about 12 glasses of water DAILY.

OOH YEAH!
WATER AEROBICS IS A GREAT WORK OUT AND IT IS FUN! THAT WEIGHTLESS FEELING IN THE WATER IS AMAZING (I NEVER KNEW I COULD GET MY LEG UP THAT HIGH .) THE HARDEST PART ABOUT WATER AEROBICS IS TRYING TO PULL YOURSELF OUT OF THE POOL AFTER THE WORK OUT!

Has anyone ever tried Weight Watchers "Points" program? If so, what were
your results. I need to loose 20 pounds by August 18th and I want to do it without starving myself or drugs.

Anybody tried that Subway diet? I eat them pretty much everyday.. not for the diet, but because I just like them. And to this broke college student, it doesn't hurt that for almost every 4 sandwiches you buy, you can get one for about $.96 (or however much chips cost with tax). Anyway, the guy on the commercials that lost all the weight said he always ate a sandwich with just vegetables for lunch and turkey for dinner... I'll never be a vegetarian, and ham kicks turkey anyday. Just curious to know if anybody's doing it.
