was never popular, never pretty, never good at anything.
I did volunteer work and never fit in with any of the groups because my high school was divided into programs. I was a Performing arts kid, so I was too artsy for the other kids, but I was preppy so I wasn't liked by the artsy kids. I was in the advanced classes so I was a nerd and I had about 4 close friends, that was it.
Nope, never popular. College was MUCH better!

I think I was a hybrid.
Growing up in Columbus in the figurative "shadow" of Ohio State, many of us sort of skipped high school socially and spent our time on campus with fake ID's etc.
Not particularly talented in athletics, but an awful lot of people knew me because of being the "voice" of the school -- doing morning announcements, announcer for marching band, MC'd variety shows, did sock hops, etc. Also worked at the local rock station at night, so if they called, I'm the guy who answered the phone.
Was an honor roll student most of the time.
I was also one of three guys who drove true British sportscars -- even though it was a wreck.
At the same time, I did date a lot of girls and "went steady" with a very popular girl in the class behind me -- also earlier with a fairly popular girl in the class ahead of me.
So, maybe the best way to say it is that I was, "In with the out crowd."
edited because my brain types faster than my fingers do.

I wouldn't say I was popular in HS...more like infamous Nah, I was a floater also.
Pretty much, I knew everyone and they all knew me...I guess with a name like mine, it's easy to remember me.
I got voted "Most Involved" as my Senior Superlative.....and I was SUPER DUPER involved in HS. So, I guess I knew a lot of peeps from that.

I knew a lot of people in high school, and they all knew me, but I wouldn't say that I was "popular." To classify as A, B, etc. wouldn't work because my HS was incredibly clique-y. Every clique thought they were above the others so there wasn't really an sort of hierarchy after that point. Now that I think about it, there were A and B lists within the cliques. The "gangsta's," "the preps," "the athletes," "the music/performing kids," "the goths/punks," "the brains," typical, typical STUPID groups. I had friends in many of the groups...hmm....
the homecoming king came from the band, the queen came from the brains, and the rest of the court came from the gangstas and the preps....

It's funny, one of my nieces just started a few weeks ago at my alma mater and she says that my teachers still regard me as the infamous Sandy of Sacred Hearts Academy.
I left a lasting legacy on them -- being the only gal ever suspended for 3 days for alcohol consumption on a Speech & Debate trip. Good stuff.

Reaganomics and Max Headroom...
I hated high school. It was a blur. I was truly depressed throughout high school.
Folks snorted cocaine and crystal-meth, my school had a smoking section, on Fridays, everybody could go off campus and eat lunch--some had liquid lunches...
My school got busted by a Narc for drugs in 1984.
We were called Patrick Henry Patriots. The statue of Patrick Henry was either painted in polka-dots or all out stolen and replaced with the "Bob", from "Bob's Big Boy".
Everyone smoked weed...
Both my junior and senior years, I had ragers at my parents house... Sold tixs to one of them... Had the "Essai's" as bouncers at one of them and 2 D.J.'s...
The administrators and parents told us that students could not enter prom if drunk... But folks just said, "Well, I'll be high..."
So to say if there was a popularity scheme to all of this???
I would have to go back to a reunion 20-30 years later and see who is still living and who died...
But with the folks I have kept up with over the years, we made it through...

H S! LOL!
VP Jr. Class, member of the S T Society (Fraternity), played football my Soph and Jr Year, ran track. Worked my Senior year to go to college. The first ever in the TOTAL FAMILY!
Did not date girls at my school except the Polack who was a year older than me my Soph. yr. She became a senior and I had a senior football jock stomp my hand in practice, really screwed it up!
With all of that back ground, no, I was not a BMOC!
I was just me.
Got kicked out of school for starting a student revolt. Well, I can truthfully say it was not me!
Boy Was MOM PISSED!
Told Tiney Heiny the V P. to kiss her ass and put me back in school!
Mom was not anyone to mess with! Damn how I miss her!

My high school was so cliqy that not only was there a recoginzed group of people who were "snobs" and like, every other click, the "freaks" the "band" the "chorus" the "drama" Oh. Yea. THey had there own populairtiy lists. Home coming queen was decided in the locker room before we all voted. I didn't realize this untill recently, but I was a part of the best click. The one everyone else hated because we were snobs. I never really let any of that "outsiderness" make me bitter because I was out side of the "freaks" and everyone else. Like I fit in no where. But I'd always end up hanging out with the football player, the lady player, the other really smart kid who wasn't a nerd, and a couple of others. We hated everyone. I was a cool person. So we they. We hung out.

Honestly, I never thought about it in high school. I was friends with everyone, was in the school plays, choir, the talent shows, the pep team, literary magazine, various other clubs, and Student Council. I was nice to everyone, but honestly didn't really like the popular kids, who were know at my school to be the drunken partiers, which I most definitely was NOT. I was never the prettiest, but I definitely wasn't the hag everyone ran from. I was just kind of in the middle, but well known and well liked. Outside of school, I only spent time with my small group of close friends until senior year, when I stopped being annoyed by big groups of people. I was voted Most Talented Senior, and was nominated for both Prom Queen and Homecoming, but I asked to be taken off the ballots because I thought they were stupid traditions. I wanted to be known for my acting and singing abilities, not as Prom Queen or Homecoming Queen.

I always thought I was unpopular. I was visiting my home town and someone said hello to me. They said I probably wouldn't remember them because I was always part of the "popular crowd". Go figure. I wish I had known that back then.

This probably isn't terribly shocking, but I was kind of a freak in high school. I had mad crazy hair and clothes, but I didn't hang out with the other kids who had crazy hair and clothes because I thought they were dumb and pretentious. I had lots of friends, and it never occurred to me to care whether anyone was popular or not. If you asked me who the popular people at my school were, I wouldn't be able to tell you. My friends were mostly just cool, smart kids in AP classes. I was voted "biggest rebel" and "most creative" by my graduating class, and I wrote and did layout for the school newspaper. I loved writing about obscure bands.

Sandy at a Catholic school. Hmmm, I think we now know where Britney got the idea for her "Hit Me Baby, One More Time" video

i guess i am a b lister too. the popular kids were the beautiful people that were good at sports, were rich and spoiled, and drank and partied on weekends. your basic 90210 crowd in the bay area. They intermixed with the other popular kids, who were the class leaders and smart but not too smart kids.
I was involved. i did sports but wasn't a stand out, my claim to fame was the yearbook, and i made friends with everyone that didn't laugh at me later. people in my class will probably remember me, but won't remember what i did unless they really knew me.
