Housing is VERY tight at the UW so they have to move in right away (and I believe they live in all 4 years) because the dorms fill up fast. I'm not sure what happens with the girls who don't get bids.

The Gamma Phi house has an "annex" (house behind the main house connected by a skybridge) where the seniors live.

I know the AXD house has an annex that's primarily upperclassmen, too.

Staying in the halls during rush is totally different than staying in during the rest of the year. You have to pay $330 to live McMahon Hall that week (of course a lot of local women just stay with their parents), which is not necessarily where you'd be living if you don't join anywhere.

I'll just quote from their Panhel page:

"If you have signed up to live in a residence hall for the 2002-2003 academic year or are planning to do so, you should consider the following information.

It is up to you if you would like to sign up for residence hall housing for the 2003-04 school year. You will, however, have to pay the applicable cancellation fee if you decide to join a sorority. If you do not want to sign up for University housing at this time, you have the option of waiting until after recruitment week to do so. It is possible and likely that there will be a waiting list at this time.

Regular cancellation fees will be assessed upon receipt of written notice of cancellation and/or failure to move into assigned space, if no notification is received for students who have signed up for University housing."

So basically, you probably want to sign up for the halls, or be willing to look for an apartment fast! Since housing is tight, if you're not from the Seattle area and don't join, you'll be on the waiting list (that is, homeless) for too long to justify waiting for a room.

Yeah the girls from out of state or far away stayed in the dorms for rush. A lot of people still signed up for a dorm for the school year just incase they did not get a bid, but if they did get one and cancel their bid they only got like $25 of their $300 deposit. I didn't sign up for one because they kinda made it sound like it was pretty easy to get into a house and I knew that I could always live at home and make the hour commute every day if worse came to worse.

Pictures!

Here is a link to the pictures that were taken on bid day at A Chi O! The best one of me is Roll1 frame 136. I am the one with the black shirt on. If you look at the pictures on the earlier pages you can see the limos that took us back to our house. lots of fun!!

you can see all the pictures if you go to gradphoto.com and then enter the password acouw, then it will give you a list of a few of the sororities that used this picture service and their password would just be their initials and the uw after. So for delta delta delta the password would be ddduw. I did this and could see all of them!
