Styles released his certified-gold solo debut, A Gangster And A Gentleman, in 2002.


Upon release, the rapper will aid his group mate Sheek Louch with the promotional efforts for Louch's forthcoming solo set, Walk With Me, which will be released on September 9. In addition, Styles will be putting the finishing touches on a new Lox album.

I had no idea that he had been in jail. I didn't even miss him. Sheek can go and sit down with that solo. He won't make it. He has success with the Lox, but I don't think that he can carry an entire album. Kiss and Styles have the talent. Sheek is not it.

It's a reality programming no-brainer: Sun and surf equal exposed bodies and hotter ratings.

Is it any wonder then that MTV has settled on steamy Southern California for the 14th installment of its reality roommate series The Real World, going into production next month in San Diego.


Casting is underway for seven strangers to shack up in the laidback coastal city, where they'll no doubt learn to surf, cruise the local bars, spend hours in the hot tub and clash over their closely monitored living situation.


And with the newest MTV crib so close to the border can a tequila-fueled road trip be far behind? Viewers will have to wait until January 2004 for the salacious details when the Real World San Diego bows on the music network.


It's the third time producers have picked California as a backdrop to the roomies drama; previous Cali spots include Los Angeles and San Francisco. Other installments have taken place in New York (both the first and 10th seasons), London, Miami, Boston, Seattle, Chicago, Hawaii, New Orleans, Las Vegas and most recently Paris.


"San Diego, with its great beaches and easy-going lifestyle, has long been a hot destination for young people all over America," said Real World cocreator and executive producer Jon Murray in a statement Friday. "It only seemed natural that the Real World would make it home for a season."


Here's hoping San Diego isn't too damn laidback for MTV's camera-friendly 18-25 year-olds.


The fish-out-of-water concept of the current season, taking place in the City of Lights, has made the Real World Paris as MTV's top-rated show.

I guess you can't be a hip hop artist these days without your own
clothing line and that's exactly what 50 Cent is about to do. 50 and
Marc Ecko have teamed up for 50's signature line of apparel, G-Unit
Clothing Co. The line will feature a 50 Cent price point which means
a pair of jeans may retail for $40.50 and a t-shirt for $20.50, of
course in honor of the company's founder. G-Unit Clothing will
feature menswear, womenswear, childrenswear, watches and leather
goods will be phased in over the next 3 years. Ecko compared he and
50's combination to Nike and Michael Jordan coming together to form
the Air Jordan sneaker. Ecko said 'It's not new for a rapper to
launch a clothing line, but what is new is that a design driven
company like us is partnering with an artist to offer the marketing

Vivian Green, Heather Hedley, Floetry and Erykah Badu are leading the nominations for the 9th annual Lady of Soul Awards. Now speaking of Erykah Badu she has a new LP coming out next month and she is currently on the road promoting it. During a recent radio interview in New York Erykah was the talk of the town as she discussed her private life. Erykah is dating rapper Common and she says he is not the only guy she sleeps with. Erykah says she has three boyfriends and she also sleeps with her baby’s daddy, rapper Andre, from the group Outcast. Erykah says she has a lot of mind sex and she says she can reach orgasm during a conversation. Is she smoking too much weed or what?

Brandy says her marriage to producer Robert Smith was a mistake and that’s why it didn’t last. (Afochic's sidenote: No isht Sherlock ) Brandy says she was too young and she didn’t have what it takes. Brandy eloped with the producer almost two years and they have a one-year-old daughter, Sy’rae. Brandy says she is happy to be a mom but now she wants to find herself.

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown recently moved into their new home in Atlanta. The 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom home cost $1.3 million and it is set up with prison like security for their privacy. Whitney turns 40 next month.

Congratulations to director John Singleton. John is getting a star next month on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. John is best known for the movies 2Fast2Furious, Boyz in the Hood, Poetic Justice and Rosewood.

Orlando Jones is riding high with his late night talk show on FX. Orlando is the host of the Orlando Jones Show on FX at 11pm. Orlando is also known as the spokesperson for 7-Up and the movie Drumline. Orlando is currently dating actress Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Tammi Terrell’s sister, Ludie Montgomery, is working on her autobiography with author Vicki Wright. Tammi Terrell was a Motown star that had numerous hits with Marvin Gaye (“Your Precious Love”, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, “You’re All I Need To Get By”). Tammi died at the age of 24 following a brain disorder. Tammi also dated the late David Ruffin and the “Godfather of Soul” James Brown. Her life story should be fascinating. Since she died at such a young age, I wonder what would have happened to her if she lived? Friends say Marvin Gaye never recovered from her death.

In a recent interview with TV Guide, Cedric The Entertainer talked about the cancellation of his show Cedric The Entertainer Presents. Cedric said he had the No.1 show in black households and that it was a slap in the face when Fox pulled the plug. Cedric said Fox wanted the show more diversified. The Fox network said they felt the show wasn’t the best showcase for his talents. The last remaining episodes of the show will air this fall. Next year look for Cedric at the movies with The Johnson Family Vacation.

Curtis Mayfield’s widow, Atheida Mayfield, is suing her late husband’s longtime manager. Atheida is suing Marv Heiman who is in charge of Curtis’s estate. Atheida wants him removed from his posts because she says he is stealing millions of dollars from her and her family. Atheida says she is having tax problems and she cannot get any money from her late husbands estate. Curtis was the hit maker back in the day with the hits “Superfly”, the soundtrack for the movies Sparkle, Claudine and Let’s Do It Again. Curtis was also a member of the Impressions and they had numerous hits including: “We’re A Winner” and “I’m So Proud.” Curtis died in 1999, at the age of 57, nine years after he became a paraplegic. Curtis was involved in a tragic accident at an outdoor venue in Brooklyn when a light tower fell on him. Curtis left behind his widow and ten children from various relationships.

What did Barry White leave in his will? “The Maestro” of love died earlier this month and his family was left high and dry. At the time of his death, Barry was still married to his estranged wife Glodean and his longtime companion Katherine Denton had just given birth to a baby girl, Barrianna. Glodean took care of the funeral arrangements and she had him cremated, per his request, and his ashes scattered out to sea. Michael and Jermaine Jackson and The Whispers were among those who were aboard the ship for the ceremony. Barry’s companion and infant daughter were not at the ceremony. Glodean wants Katherine to take a DNA test to prove that the child is Barry’s, but Katherine has refused. Did Barry leave her anything? Will Glodean get the lion’s share because he never divorced her? What will the 8 remaining children get? They were getting five thousand dollars a month when he was living. The reading of the will is supposed to happen this week.

Actress Nia Long is set to join the cast the NBC show Third Watch. Nia is best known for her movies The Best Man and Love Jones. Nia is featured in the latest issue of Honey Magazine and she talks about her new life as the mother of a young toddler. Nia also talks about resuming her career and she talks about Oscar Winning Actress Halle Berry. Nia says Halle should use her position to open the door for other African American Actresses.

Gerald Levert the movie star! The singing sensation will be joining Monique for the movie Beauty Shop that opens in theatres later this year. Gerald’s love life is also heating up. Gerald is currently dating singer/songwriter Kandi Burress of the group Escape. Kandi is known for writing about her personal life in her songs. She used to date one of the guys in the group Jagged Edge and the relationship did not end well. Well, Kandi went on to write “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Bugaboo” for Destiny’s Child and “No Scrubs” for TLC.

The Matrix Reloaded is coming out on DVD and VHS October 14th. The movie starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Jada Pinkett Smith will come out three weeks before the final trilogy of the Matrix hits the big screen The Matrix Revolution.
