I use my left hand for Wisconsin...I thought everybody did. We always did that at Student Council camp to show where we were from!

Hmmm...

Guess it depends on whether you look at the palm or the back.

I have relatives there, and I've never felt uncomfortable or unwelcome there.

But I'm from New Mexico...no one seems to have mentioned us yet.

I've just spent a lot of time there...like I said, I visit relatives. No one's really picked on NM, so I thought I'd stand up for a neighbor

Use of that word when talking about states, cities, etc. is not uncommon in the hallowed halls of GC.

And, I agree. Let's be kind to each other.
It was entitled, "Reasons why Texas is better than Nebraska" and it was started with the sole intent to poke fun at docetboy.

In an earlier group chat he had said that Texas sucks, so i went ahead and posted a thread of why i thought Texas was better than where he lived.

It was not meant to flame anyone and was a joke, but with all the apparant anti-Texas sentiments on this board it quickly became a insult fest.

Whatever, i'm done on this thread. For the record, i believe that thread was the only time i've (loosely) said some other place sucked. I've lived in Denver and Northern Virginia besides Texas, as well as spent ample time in nebraska and south dakota as well as NYC due to family. So, believe me when i say that Texas is the best placed i've lived.

*EDITED to add*

"nebraska" thread in question:

Reasons Texas is better than nebraska

threads where i have used the word 'sucks':

Rushing the field

Fun game

so i guess i did 'say' that Nashville sucks, but that was more a stab at Nashville country music as opposed to Texas music

Looks like it's up to me to weigh in for Connecticut

- Quaint little New England towns
- Not too far from NYC or Boston (I'm a city girl)
- Affordable houses (in most towns anyway)
- 4 distinct seasons and weather that keeps you guessing
- The world's worst drivers

Kitso,

You have my appologies for misrepresenting the name of your thread. Without using the word "sucks," though, that was pretty much the message I read into the post -- even though, as I said at the time, I was sure it was done in humor.

However, from the PM's I got after my post, I will tell you that there were people hurt and offended by the thread.
Take that for whatever it is worth. The same goes for anyone else who decides it is OK to take a direct frontal attack on someone else's home state, city of residence, etc. I think that's 361 kinds of thoughtless. At least some people didn't consider the thread a "little joke."

I will just reiterate this: I believe I've still been to everywhere mentioned before and since that post (although I haven't gone back to really double check). None of those places is perfect, and no place is worthless. Whether one place is better than another is purely a matter of what we are comfortable with and what we like or dislike.

I would go on, but to what end? No opinions are likely to change, are they?

Hint: look at the lower peninsula of Michigan... Looks suspiciously like a mitten, doesn't it?

Hold the back your left hand out in front of you. It roughly looks like Wisconsin - it is a good method for pointing out where you are from. For example, I would tell people Platteville is just above your wrist on the outside, and my hometown is where the bone from your thumb meets the bones in your palm, my cottage is the top knuckle on my middle finger...it's a vague Wisconsin map.
