Informal Recruitment Ideas
Hello!!
I know that all schools do informal recruitment differently, and what not. But, I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for a recruitment party? Any interesting themes out there?

What kind of stuff do you do for informal recruitment now? My sorority only participates in informal recruitment so I have tons of ideas. I was just trying to get an idea of what you already do.

Have a Mocktail. Get all dressed up in cocktail attire but serve virgin drinks or lemonaide.

Currently we have small dinner parties. But, we were looking for something fun and a little different. The mocktail is a good idea.

We've done...
- Mocktails (worked really well)
- Ice cream (both getting a room on campus and brought ice cream in, and taking PNMs out to ice cream places)
- Movies (take PNMs out to a movie, chat with them on the way there and back and while you're waiting for the movie to start)
- Picnics (take PNMs over to a deli, everyone gets sandwiches, then find a grassy spot and try to keep the ants at bay )

A casino night sounds like fun! What do you do for that?

What's your budget? (Am I allowed to ask that? If not sorry!)
We have a small budget, yes, less that's $200 for a semester small.
We do a lot of stuff though. movie nights are fun, but don't work well with conversation.
one thing that works well on our campus is figerpainting and crayons. who doesn't like to draw! agian, we have a unique campus so that might be why but we do fingerfood and stuff also.
one place for ideas is www.residentassistant.com it is for RA's but they have some great ideas that you can do for a reasonable price.
We did kareokee (sp???) we had the machine and just hooked it up it was easy! and everyone had fun! you need to have reallyout going girls who will start it and then it is good!
Good luck!

How about an around the world dessert party? Put different desserts in everyone's rooms and go from room to room taste testing.
Cocoa and cookies is always good when it's cold.

We do informal rush in the spring. Since I joined, we've done a different event every night. Outdoor games, a progressive dinner (where different parts of the meal are served in different sister's apartments on campus), movie night at the dollar theatre, BYOB (bring your own banana), stuff like that. Ours usually lasts 4 days and the 4th night we give out bids.

our informal recruitment is one nite
and we don't do a thing
we just sit around and talk to the girls
we dress up, of course
and when the girls leave
we do the 'who am i?' cheer
people say they hear us for miles

We have informal Spring Rush here at GMU and some things we're doing this semester, and have done in the past, are:
Must "Z" TV
FieZTA
Making picture frames
Making quilt squares
Strawberry Social (tallcakes at Ruby Tuesdays)
"Map to the Stars" Party (all about how cool being a Zeta is)
This semester's theme is "Hollywood ZTA." Very cute!

ZTAMelissa made me think of other rush ideas, and maybe this should have its own thread, but...
The best rush idea I've ever seen in action was done by AEPhi at Pitt. Formal Rush is one week (at the most!), and instead of picking several wild ideas, and spending the week tearing down the decorations from the one night, and putting up new ones, they picked ONE rush theme - and each night, highlighted a different facet of it. They used a Mexican theme, and decorated accordingly - once. From there, everything fit into the theme - until Pref, which was done without decoration. As an advisor, I couldn't help but think of the money they saved (in decorations), the time they saved (decorating only the one time), and the wear & tear on the nerves that doing without sleep and "she's not pulling her weight!" stress. I applaud any rush activity that uses a minimum of waste.
FYI, for informal rush, we've made gingerbread houses, cookies & halloween bags for Ronald McDonald House, had a scavenger hunt, and a lot of old movie nights. PNMs that are into COB are usually the ones who want to see what the chapter is REALLY like on a day to day basis.
Good luck, everyone!

ideas for informal
for our informal, we'll put up fliers advertising when we are doing rush and we do a week of small events like going out for pizza, having a BBQ and what ended up being a lot of fun was when we went roller skating....it sounds small, but its a great way for people to open up
