I have a friend who is a Kappa Delta there and she says Phi Mu participated in the open house round(this weekend) but according to her and the Phi Mu National Site, formal colonization will not take place until Feb. Basically, Phi Mu will recruit sorority house total...and girls who are older, dropped out of rush or didn't accept a bid will be eligible to be interviewed.

i even plugged phi mu to a miami rushee since we're no longer there and yall are taking our spot. told her to not discount phi mu just b/c they are new. i told her it would be a good idea to get in now cuz she can help determine how the chapter will be in the greek system there.
if they are going to rush anything like zeta did, then it will be only open house where they tell the girls all about phi mu and the gpa requirements, etc. then tell them that if they want to join that they will do interviews after formal rush is over.
i hope it goes okay for phi mu cuz i know it's tough for any sorority to (re)colonize at miami. they are a tough crowd.

Hey
I'll try to get updates from my friend(KD), she went through formal last year, attended 3 pref parties(ZTA, DDD, and XO) and was cross cut and accepted a snap from KD. She says 1000 girls attended Open House this weekend. She expressed a warning that the Miami Greek System is very tough and it is hard for a sorority to establish or reestablish themselves. ZTA proved a lot of people wrong with how well they did with colonization and I hope Phi Mu does the same. I believe Phi Mu and Sigma Sigma Sigma were chosen to present last spring for a possible invitation to colonize. I was told by my friend that Sigma Kappa was the most recent to close. I believe Phi Mu was chosen because it was closed earlier(95) and I am not sure if Tri-Sigma ever had a chapter there. Panhellenic Associations generally rule in favor of sororities that were once established and have gone through the proper waiting period. I hope Sigma Kappa gets a chance to recolonize in the future, it seems the greek system is ever increasing at Miami and the need for more houses will only increase...I believe Phi Mu will be Miami's 18th NPC organization...I predict Miami will have the full 26 within the next 5-10 years.
That is all I know. I hope all goes well for all sororities but I do know that some of the chapters there consider the addition of Phi Mu not a good thing. Just one of those things...

From what I've heard, rush at Miami can be pretty cut throat. But I trust that national will get in there and get some quality girls for the colony. I'm wondering if they'll need help from actives come feb....If so, I'm sure girls from our chapter will make a road trip!!

you are right, miami's rush is very cut throat and tough. zeta did a great job, but only due to the hard work and long hours the new sisters put into recruiting girls. they literally went door to door around campus to recruit.
phi mu and sss were both on miami's campus at one time. i do have to say that i'm happy it's phi mu that got the spot and not sss. no offense, but sss was founded by former sk sisters who didn't like sk.
anyhow, i'll be curious to see how it goes. next weekend is another round and another chance for girls to be cut. we'll see.

Just to clear up (once again) Tri Sigma was NOT founded by former Sigma Kappas...

Aroung 970 women attended Open House. That was at or around 100 women lower than last year. I think a lot had to do with timing - people needed to come back Jan 2nd because recrutiment started Jan 3rd. I can see a lot of parents saying no way to bringing someone back so close after holidays are over.
Phi Mu and A E Phi only participated in Open House. I met the women from the Phi Mu National Council that were there and they seemed very nice.
Miami is a tough recruitment, so many women and sooo long!! It takes place over the next two weekend too. So although recruitment started Jan 3rd women don't get their bids until Jan 20th!!! 17 days !!!!

i'm so happy i don't have to do rush at miami anymore. as tough as it was for sigma kappa to close, i have to say it's nice not having to do rush.
rush brought out the worst in every chapter. sigma kappa included.
i do wish all miami glo's the best of luck in rush this year. you all work so hard and i know it'll pay off (even though rush numbers are down)
aphigirl - pm me and let me know how rush goes. i almost went alpha phi. i love to keep up on how things are going with you all.

Hey Everyone!
I am an Alpha Phi at Miami, and as has been mentioned, recruitmnt here can be pretty tough. From what I have hear, a lot of girls were heavily cut after open house and my friend who is an RA said there were a lot of tears in the dorms tonight when girls recieved there invites for 1st round. I've also heard that Phi Mu did a great job presenting to the girls in open house and that the PNM are definitley keeping the new colony in mind.
Also, on a more personal note, Alpha Phi is doing a fantastic job and we can;t wait for our new awesome noew members!
